LAUGHLIN GETS FIRST EVER DOG HOLLOW FEATURE WIN
For immediate release August 8, 2008
STRONGSTOWN , PA – Roger Laughlin of McVeytown won the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Model feature on Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway for the first time in his racing career on Jeff Dick Home Sales Trophy night.
Repeat winners included Billy Eash of Johnstown in the Townsend Gas and Oil Late Models, Jim Boyer of Indiana in the Jeff Dick Home Sales Street Stocks, Tim Laughard of Vinco in the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks and Joe Petyak of Gallitzin in the Texas Auto Ranch Four Cylinders.
Josh Jacoby and Billy Eash led the late models to the start with Jacoby taking the lead and setting the pace for the opening two laps, before he lost the lead to Eash. Once Eash had the lead, he set a torrid pace. As he was leading the lead Rick Strong and Chris Farrell were closing in on the leader but Eash wasn’t about to be denied his second win of the season, as he held on to get the win. Strong, Farrell, Bernie Whiteford and Jacoby completed the top five. Rick Strong and Randy Smithley won the heats.
Roger Laughlin beat John Eckenrod into the first turn to state the Fastrak late model feature and once he had the lead he kept it. Daniel Angelicchio sat in second the entire race and he pressured Laughlin every lap, but Laughlin held the lead and maintained his line to keep Angelicchio at bay. Early in the race Dave Padula moved into third to do battle with the leaders, but when Bob Sullinger waved the checkered flag it was Laughlin going to victory lane. Angelicchio, Padula, Mike Pegher and Ron Smithley rounded out the top five. The Angelicchio brothers, Dan and Chris, split the heat racers.
Jim Boyer raced Cory Poraczky into the first turn to start the street stock feature with Boyer taking the lead and setting the pace with Mike Laughard in second and Denny Keener in third. The top three were presenting a competitive race when Scott Stein moved in to the mix and took second on lap seven. Stein then tried the outside of Boyer in turns one and two and went high with just one lap to go, allowing Laughard to get under him and Keener to move along side. As the field went down the backstretch it was Boyer crossing the line ahead of Laughard, while Keener and Stein were door-to-door, with Keener edging out Stein at the line. The top five were: Boyer, Laughard, Keener, Stein and Adam Fulton. Heat wins went to Jim Boyer and Denny Keener.
There may have only been nine pure stocks in the field, with eight making the feature, but they put on a great race as Rich Power made a power move off the second turn to lead the first lap from his third place starting spot. Marshall Detwiler pulled into the lead a lap later. Detwiler led the first 10 laps, holding off first Powell, then Tim Laughard before Laughard took the lead on the 11th lap and held on as Detwiler battled back. The top five of Detwiler, Powell, Laughard, John Mazey and Jeremy Shaffer were under a blanket before Shaffer blew the engine and gave up the chase. At the finish it was Laughard over Detwiler, Sam McAdams, Mazey and Mike Silk. The heat was won by Sam McAdams.
The four cylinders went green with Matt Weakland and Mark Maglett on the front row with Maglett taking the lead for the opening two laps, before Joe Petyak took the lead on lap three. As the race continued Brennan McCracken moved into the second spot and tried to get his first ever win, but Petyak wanted his second and at the line it was Petyak taking the win over McCracken, Maglett, Paul Little and Adam Laughard. David Rocker and Adam Laughard split the heat wins.
