Daggett Adds Another ASCS SOD Win at I-96
T.J. Buffenbarger, LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (August 9, 2008) Dustin Daggett won the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature on Saturday at I-96 Speedway. Daggett started ninth and had a torrid battle with Brett Mann and Ryan Grubaugh for the victory in a feature that ran 25 laps non-stop after a first lap caution.
That race was crazy, said Daggett in victory lane. It was great to race with (Grubaugh and Mann) for the lead, everyone raced clean out there. It seems like our team just keeps going better and better.
Grubaugh and Norman started on the front row. During the initial start Norman, Gary Fast, and John Gall were collected in an incident in turn one. This moved Joe Bares up to the front row to join Grubaugh on the initial start. Grubaugh jumped into the lead. Mann moved up from fifth to second and Daggett into third immediately and set sail for Grubaugh.
The trio approached lapped traffic just before halfway. Mann and Daggett exchanged second back and fourth multiple times before Daggett took away the spot. Then Daggett set sail for Grubaugh. They continued to battle through lapped traffic before Daggett took away the lead.
Daggett then ran a torrid pace over the remaining laps through slower cars to win over Grubaugh, Mann, Steve Irwin, and Dain Naida. After winning the
Naida, Sean Robinson, and Gregg Dalman won heat race events. Ben Rutan won the B-Main event and earned the JE/SRP Pistons hard charger award by advancing 11 positions during the A-Main. Gary Fast won the Total Seal Fast Car Dash presented by Gaerte Engines. In hot laps Nathan Bevard broke a rear end and tipped over on the backstretch. Bevard and his crew made repairs and were able to run their heat race event.
Next week the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz heads north to the Merritt Speedway in Merritt, Michigan for the second and final appearance at the fast 3/8-mile oval.
