Sammy "Reakes" Havoc on Field Saturday at Fulton
By Dave Medler
Fulton, NY - Sammy Reakes IV got back to his winning ways grabbing the lead on lap-6, and from there went on to win his fourth feature of the season in the 20-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature. Other winner on Canale Insurance Night was Dave Mannise, UMP Street Stocks, Claude Hutchings Jr., E&V Energy Novice Crate Sportsman Modifieds, Jim Lafler New York Modified Midgets and Skip DeGroff Four Cylinder Enduro.
Stewart Garrison jumped to the lead from his third starting spot to lead the open laps of the 20-lap Sportsman Modified Feature. Garrison was chased in the early going by Matt Hulsizer and Tim Sears Jr..
On lap-4 a multi car tangle involving Alan Fink, Gregg Carner and Jim Bowman brought out the yellow. Bowman got airborne and almost went over, all drivers involved were okay.
Sammy Reakes IV on lap-six used the high side to get around Garrison and take over the top spot. Garrison, A.J Kingsley, Hulsizer and Billy Clark Jr battled for second through fifth.
When the race reached the halfway point Reakes opened a half a straightaway lead over Garrison, Kingsley and Chris Hile who started in the eleventh spot.
With five- laps to go Reakes, Garrison, Hile, Kingsley and John Pietrowicz ran nose to tail and side by side for the top spots.
On lap-17 Reakes found the bite he needed on the bottom to get away and be first under the checkers. Hile used a last lap pass to get around Garrison to come home second. Pietrowicz, Garrison and Jason Parkhurst rounded out the top five.
"It was a lot of fun the track was real fast," said Reakes after his win. I wish I had a little less gear cause I wanted to run the top. When Timmy (Sears) got chopped by the 54 (Garrison ) we were inches from being in the pits." finished up Reakes.
Dan Hoffmann Sr grabbed the lead from his fourth starting spot to lead the opening laps of the 20-lap UMP Street Stock Feature. With Hoffmann leading he was getting heavy pressure from Nick Rizzo. On lap-4 Rizzo saw an opening on the top of the speedway to get around Hoffmann and grab command of the race.
After a quick yellow on lap-5 Rizzo was still leading being pursued by Dave Mannise. One lap later Mannise got around Rizzo to take the top spot.
At halfway Mannise still lead but was getting a challenge from Rizzo. The rest of the field was a few car lengths behind the top two. Hoffmann Sr, Dave Pope and Hoffmann jr ran third through fifth.
Over the last five laps Rizzo could stay with Mannise but could get no closer than to his back bumper. Mannise was first under the checkers for his seventh win of the year. Rizzo, Dan Hoffmann Sr. and Hoffmann Jr. and Dave Pope completed the top five.
After his win Mannise said, "Man there were a lot of cautions I don't know what was going on back there. As long as it was going on in the back we don't care." He finished up by saying, "We didn't want to come back here but the cost of fuel these days, I'm glad we did now."
Claude Hutchings Jr took advantage of his up front starting spot to lead every lap of the E&V Energy 15-lap Novice Crate Sportsman Feature. Even with three time feature winner Mark Olmstead Jr. behind him didn't rattle Hutchings from winning his first ever feature in the class. Olmstead, Joe Kline, point leader Katelyn Kane and Scott Fowler rounded out the top five.
Jim Lafler used a last lap pass for the lead to grab the 20-lap New York Modified Midget Feature over Nick Cooper. Look for full results when the traveling club gets the information to us.
"I found some bite on the low side, they were all running the top," said Lafler about his last lap pass for the win."The car just came on, you take what you can get. I really needed that win tonight. They have about 20 more horse power than we do, you take it when you can get one."
Skip DeGroff took top honors in the Four Cylinder Enduro. Mark Johnston, Jerry Herbert,Les Baker and Keith Zerbil chased DeGroff across the finish line.
