IRA Schedule Adjusted for final 2008 Swing.
The IRA Outlaw Sprint Series has plenty of racing yet this season. While many series and tracks wrap up their season around Labor Day, IRA keeps on running all the way through September. Ten races remain on the IRA point schedule beginning with a pair this weekend, Aug. 15-16. IRA headlines the Kenosha County Fair in Wilmot WI this Friday before taking a short drive north to Charter Raceway Park for Saturday's show. Scott Uttech grabbed Wilmot's earlier IRA visit, while Donny Goeden, Todd King, and Brian Kristan have all garnered win's in 2008 IRA competition at Charter.
The following weekend has a Saturday August 23rd date at Rice Lake Speedway. Rice Lake has proved to be very popular with both fan's and competitor's alike, as Scotty Neitzel has won the two previous annual visits in front of the track's largest crowds of the year.
Labor Day weekend will go green in a big way as IRA has been added to the annual Sue Thiel Memorial at the Dodge County Fairgrounds. This will mark IRA's first time competing in the event, though IRA has been the anchor for Dodge County race specials over the year's. Dan Thiel has decided to really make a statement with this year's event and has added IRA to the card which also includes the USAC National Midgets, and an Open Modified Invitational. The originally scheduled Sue Thiel Memorial featuring just the Midgets and Mods rained out back in May, and Dan has added IRA since those earlier raindrops hoping to truly make this a major event. Billy Balog and Todd Hepfner have scored previous Dodge County IRA wins earlier this year. Then on Sunday August 31st, IRA will make its' 2nd annual appearance at the Seymour Speedway. Mike Reinke wowed the capacity house last year in IRA's first event at the newly configured facility in over eighteen years. A rain date for Monday has been secured for this event.
The following weekend has been an annual IRA trip for many years now, as the series heads north for a pair of biggies. September 5th has IRA headlining the Friday night portion of Northern Nationals at Superior Speedway. This event has had many of the sport's best visit its' Winner's Circle over the years. The Superior stop is a great way to lead in to Saturday and IRA's richest race of the season, the annual Jerry Richert Memorial at the Cedar Lake Speedway September 6th. While IRA sanctioned, the stars of Knoxville and NOSA have been known to come on over for this one. A rim-riding Mike Reinke has captured the past two Richert Memorials, while Scott Winter's swept Cedar Lake's 2-day IRA Master's portion earlier this year.
The IRA season concludes with 3 races on consecutive Saturday's directly in the heart of IRA territory. Sept. 13th has IRA back at Beaver Dam's Dodge County half-mile for the annual Dick Witt Checkered Classic. September 20th has the series at the very fast third-mile Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Then the season concludes Saturday September 27th with the annual Frank Filskov Memorial Fall Classic at Sheboygan County Fair Park's Plymouth Dirt Track. A rain date for Sunday Sept. 28th has been secured for this annual curtain closer.
It should be noted that the 8/22 show scheduled for the Red Cedar Speedway has been canceled by the speedway for unknown reason's. And the 8/29 show originally scheduled for the LaFayette County Speedway in Darlington has been taken off the schedule and replaced by IRA's appearance in the Sue Thiel Memorial. With the Thiel Memorial USAC/Mod event being rained out back in May and being rescheduled for 8/29 right in the middle of what is IRA's home base, it was determined it was in everyone's best interest to join the show versus fight it, so IRA and its' big Beaver Dam fan base can stay close to home and see their local sprint and mod favorite's, plus the USAC & Badger Midget star's too.
Billy Balog holds a slim point lead over Mike Reinke, Scotty Neitzel, and Steve Meyer in the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints point chase. IRA is also partner's with United Trailers, Bar's Leaks & Rislone, TW Metal, Osborn & Son Trucking, Arctic Cat, Cummins/Onan, and Hoosier Tire. IRA is an ASA affiliated series.
