Twin 20’s for the 358-Modifieds this Sunday at Utica-Rome Speedway
VERNON , NY- One of the most exciting events on the weekly schedule at the Utica-Rome Speedway is on tap this Sunday August 17 when Andy’s Speedshop, Craig’s Motorsports, and John’s Auto Body presents Twin 20 lap features for the 358-Modifieds plus a regular show of Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 5:30 p.m. For anyone to have a shot at toppling current 358-Modified point leader Pat Ward from atop the standings, this week would be the week to start their run for the $8,000 championship. With two twenty lap features scheduled, each giving full points to the field, Ward’s gap on the rest of the field could shrink considerably if he would have any bad luck. Second and third place point men Stewart Friesen and Willy Decker hope to cut into Ward’s advantage with two solid runs. Mitch Gibbs, Bobby Varin, Paul Kinney, Jamie Christian, Paul Jensen, Gus Scmidt, and Jim Davis are just some of the drivers looking to gain positions in the standings. Brad Alger holds a 28 point lead in the Sportsman standings over Matt Janczuk, followed by recent winner Jason Rood, Jeremy Vunk, Steve Way , Jim Rothwell, Jeff Leslie, Tim Nye, Mike Button, and Casey Williams. In the Pro Stocks, Jim Normoyle continues to have a championship type season with weekly top five finishes mixed with an occasional win. Bill Knapp, Tom Denton, Shawn Frost, Rob Seavy, Mark Effner, Bret Belden, AJ Digsby, Ed Ostrander, and Dave Moyer round out the top ten runners. Russ Marsden continues to show the way in the Pure Stocks but Chris Carr is just two points behind. Ron Hawker, Phil Norman, Frank Hyatt, Waylan Wilczek, Chris Cunningham, Tim Janczuk, Bill Mason, and Cale Hoffman. Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon NY , just minutes from the New York State Thruway. Complete information is available at www.uticaromespeedway.com or by calling (315)829-4557. |
