ELDORA QUIET NOW, BUT ROARS BACK WITH BIGGIES

ROSSBURG, OH (August 14) – Eldora Speedway may be sitting idle for a couple of weekends, but when the roar of engines returns to the famed one-half mile clay oval, it will be in a big way – big for both the race teams and the fans.

Up first on the significant menu will be the inaugural Baltes Classic presented by Aesthetic Finishers on Sunday night, August 31, as speedway owner Tony Stewart commemorates Eldora’s founders and leading force to the track’s notoriety – Earl and Berneice Baltes.

Already steep in tradition with monumental race events, Stewart, who purchased the facility from Baltes in 2004, wanted to acknowledge the Baltes’ dedication and leadership in racing by rewarding the fans, who have long supported Eldora. To that degree, a minimum of $50,000 in prizes and awards, including $15,000 in cash disbursements, will be distributed at random amongst the fans in attendance on August 31. In addition to the cash, product and gift cards from The Home Depot, MAC Tools, NIKE, Sunoco, Armor All and Old Spice will be distributed.

On the race card that night will be the Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS), Moser UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) DirtCar Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars. Stewart has opted to raise the standard ALMS winner’s share that evening from $2,000 to $3,000, as the Late Models have their final opportunity to prepare for the famed World 100, which will close out the bill of fare for early September, and take to the grid September 5 & 6.

Baltes shocked the racing fraternity in 1971 by introducing the initial World 100 and its unheard of $4,000 to win payoff, with a promise to increase the winner’s share by $1,000 annually. From that day forward, the World 100 has become known as the benchmark of Late Model racing and is revered by drivers as the most significant victory they can show on their driving resume.

That yearly increase has been honored by Baltes, and now Stewart, with this year’s classic event, the 38th annual, offering $41,000 to the 100-lap victor. More importantly, at stake is the highly sought after globed trophy that signifies a World 100 triumph.

Within a time frame of less than seven days, Eldora will become the focus of Late Model racing for both fans and drivers. Complete information on The Baltes Classic presented by Aesthetic Finishers and the World 100 may be obtained by surfing to www.eldoraspeedway.com.
