Accord, NY - Mother Nature Drenches Accord Speedway For Second Consecutive Week

By Steve Pados, Accord Media The skies of the Hudson Valley once again played havoc on the Accord Speedway as one heavy shower after another fell in a short interval of time on Friday afternoon causing Promoter Gary Palmer to cancel the five division show he had planned for this evening August 15th. Elwood Hewitt's Matco Tool franchise was the headline sponsor for the scheduled program. Hewitt's Fabrication has been a longtime builder, sponsor, owner and driver in the Pro Stock ranks and race cars of his design have captured six wins during the 2008 racing season in the Pro Stock division. D & J's Racing Collectibles was to be the Rhinebeck Ford Modified bonus sponsor with their addition of the $250.00 bonus program to the Modified drivision. The cancellation is the second consecutive week the speedway has fallen to the whims of Mother Nature. All told, five cancellations have hit the speedway for the Friday night action and another three rainouts have halted the Wednesday night Mid Week Madness Shows. After two initial shows, the raceway suffered three consecutive rainouts and were then able to string together a very successful eleven weeks of exciting racing activity that has brought the fans out in large numbers to view the side and side, three wide and times four wide racing most raceways only dream about. The close competition in all divisions at Accord have produced not only great racing but emerging stars on the race track as well. With the season dwindling down quickly, only three more point shows remain on the schedule of events at the refurbished speedplant. For the drivers who have aspirations to win a divisional title, all of the remaining races will have special significance all of their own. The "King of the Catskills" ROC Modified 75-lap feature will unfurl in a two day weekend event that will see the Modifieds, Pro Stocks and a special Slingshot event taking place on Friday night September 26th and the following day on the 27th, the remainder of the tracks divisions will headline the racing activity with the CRSA sprint Cars paying a return trip to the speedway and bringing their winged warriors excitement to the speedway. The last time the troupe did battle, Kerhonkson resident "Captain Quick" Jeremy Quick showed the rest of the CRSA gang he still knew his way around the Accord speed plant by securing a solid win in the feature event. Anyone who would like to sponsor a lap or laps for the any of the King of the Catskills main events are to contact Steve Pados regarding the availabilty of the remaining laps for the races that weekend. All Modified laps will be rated at $20.00 per lap with no restriction as to how much one can place on the sponsorship lap. All other divisions will be rated at $5.00 per lap sponsorship. All lap sponsors will be recognized prior to the running of each feature event. Next week, August 22nd, will mark Camera and Autograph Night at the Speedway with longtime sponsor Mid Hudson Concete taking center stage with their sponsorship of the event. The plans are set to put as many race cars as possible behind the grandstand area and along with the fans meeting with the drivers, having driver's interviews conducted prior to the beginning of the hot lap sessions. Pit Gates at the speedway open at 4:30 and Spectator Gates open at 5 PM. Admission cost for the Adults are $12.00 and for 11years and under the cost is $3.00. Hot laps are at 6:30 and the racing gets underway at 7 PM. The Palmer Family would like to thank all of the sponsors, competitors, fans and staff for making the racing at Accord so special, and look forward to the continuance of a 2008 racing season that has been spectacular right from the first green flag.
