Edelweiss Speedway Collects 3316$ for the Canadian Cancer Society!
Cantley, PQ – Friday, August 15 2008 – Martin Bélanger – Edelweiss Speedway was presenting one of his most important race programs of the season as the Canadian Cancer Society had the spotlight. A fundraiser was done during the evening to gather funds for the society. The popular Empire Super Sprints were in town along with a Mohawk Race Parts series race of 50 laps for the Pro-Stock. The modifieds had the night off but the other classes had a regular program.
Edelweiss Speedway collected a great amount of $3316 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Eric and Denis Gauvreau of Gauvreau Top-Soil sold 50 special t-shirts that were tagged at 10$ each, they went away in minutes! The ribbons sale and the admission went well despite the thunderstorms received before the beginning of the program. A great success and this event will be back in 2009 with the goal to collect a minimum of $4000 for the society.
Gilles Godard and Eric Varin were in front of the field of 18 cars in the Carole Legault 50 Pro-stock feature race counting for the Mohawk Race Parts and Accessories. Godard took the early and the led the first three laps when caution came out. On the restart, Godard stayed in front as Rock Aubin made a charge to second when a multi-car tangle occurred in turn 3 and yellow came out on lap 4. Godard kept the lead for one lap when Eric Varin stopped in turn 3 on lap 5. Godard was still first with Dion Oakes now second and Rock Aubin third. Chris Wilson brought the yellow on lap 9. Two laps went on the green when three cars got together in turn 3 with 11 down. Godard had company with Oakes when caution came back on the field. Godard was ahead of the pack when Ghyslain Valade made a great move to take second. Steve Johnston slowed on the backstretch on lap 19. On the following green, Travis Back challenged Valade for second with PJ Peters now in top 5. Valade was on the backbumper of Godard, with Back in third, Aubin fourth and Peters completing the top 5 and the halfway point. A great battle was going on for the top position between Valade and Godard. Godard went too high and Rock Aubin made a charge and took the lead on lap 31. After chasing Godard for many laps, Valade was now after Aubin for the lead with 10 laps to go. Aubin led the final laps to win his first feature race in the Mohawk Race Parts and Accessories series. Valade finished second, Back third, Peters fourth and Gilles Godard completed the top 5. Godard and Joey Ladouceur won the heats.
Justin Barger and Lee Ladouceur led the field of 20 cars in the 25-lap ESS feature race. Ladouceur took the early lead as Tommy Wickham took second when Jeff Cook went sideways and the red went on the field on lap 3. Ladouceur stayed in front with Wickham and Barger the top 3. Ladouceur got into traffic with 9 laps down. Steve Poirier was coming on strong at the halfway point as he was now in fourth position. Ladouceur was really working well in traffic as the field got quickly to lap 20. Ladouceur led all the laps to win his first feature in history in a sprint car, Wickham finished second with Barger in third, Poirier fourth and Jessica Zemken completes the top 5. Alain Bergeron, Chris Jones and Lance Yonge won the heats.
Edelweiss got some rain for about an hour just before the start of the program and it was delayed for about 2 hours. The track was fast and it gave some great racing in both feature races. Because of time the Semi-Pro and 4 cylinders have been postponed to next week. Another great program of racing next week as the point`s race are coming to an end. A complete program is on the schedule, plus double features for Semi-Pro and 4 cylinders classes, the Centre Sports Motorisé 4-wheelers will also be in action.
