Billet Returns to SSP Victory Lane on Saturday Night; Morgan, Failor, Broderick, Knaub and Buck Also Victorious
Newberrytown, PA (August 16, 2008) – The popular Stock Car Saturday Night racing program at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on August 16 was filled with many great racing battles in all divisions all evening long. Carlisle ’s Carl Billet won his fifth Late Model feature of the season to extend his point lead. Halifax ’s Paul Morgan won his first Street Stock main event of the season. Lancaster ’s Donnie Broderick picked up the win in the Xtreme Stock Car feature. Newville’s Jason Failor won the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car make-up feature postponed from Saturday, June 28. Ronnie Buck of Annville was victorious in the Four Cylinder Stock Car feature event. Dover ’s Kendra Knaub dominated the Women on Wheels Stock Car feature event.
The evening began with the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car make-up feature from June 28. Jason Failor took command of the event on lap 3 from early pacesetter Sean Todd. Failor led the remainder of the laps in a strong win over Lance Danmyer. Sam Rial come home in third, followed by Donnie Broderick and Chris Heller.
The 20-lap Late Model feature event began with Kyle Saylor looking strong as the leader over the first half of the race. Travis McClelland was in pursuit the whole race finally took the lead on the twelfth lap. With many spirited battles behind McClelland, point leader Carl Billet showed up on his rear bumper late in the race. Billet scooted by McClelland on the lap 19 to win his fifth feature of the season. McClelland wound up in second, followed by Bud Witmer, Charles Potts and Randy Christine Jr. Saylor and Denny Willey won their qualifying heat races.
The 20-lap Street Stock feature was equally exciting with any of the top half of the field under a blanket racing for the top five spots throughout the entire race. Jenn Scott led the first five laps and Dustin Hollinger led the next thirteen circuits. When the smoke cleared, it was 2007 Point Champion Paul Morgan sitting in victory lane. Hollinger came home in second, followed by Chad Smith, Jenn Scott and Eric Walker. Brothers Craig and Paul Morgan won their respective qualifying heat races.
The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car nightcapper was a barnburner from start t finish. John Frye grabbed the early lead until Matt Adams wrangled the top spot from him on the third circuit. Adams pulled out to a comfortable lead over the next 16 non-stop laps with plenty of action occurring behind him. One of the only things that could have kept Adams out of victory lane occurred was a caution flag flying on lap 18. With two laps to go, Ray Broderick took the lead on the start going into turns one. A wild scramble for the top spot occurred on the last lap coming off turn four. Donnie Broderick edged out his father Ray at the line by less than two feet with Matt Adams finishing in a very close third place. Sam Rial and Ron Vance rounded out the top five. Vance and Adams won the XSC qualifying heat races.
Ronnie Buck rolled onto his fourth Four Cylinder Stock Car feature event win of the season after battling with Jason Smith in the late stages of the 20 lapper. John Stoll Jr. came back after and early flat tire to finish second, followed by Leroy Long, Eric Hollenbach and Henry Lesher. Buck and Ed Hollenbach won the Four Cylinder Stock Car qualifying heat races.
The 15-lap Women on Wheels Stock Car feature saw Nancy Horan Frye lead the first three laps until Kendra Knaub took the lead on lap 4 and never looked back. Knaub picked up her fourth win of the season over Frey. Renae Luckenbaugh finished third followed by Beth Buhrman.
Stock Car Saturday Night racing action returns on August 23, with the York County Racing Club Night featuring with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Legends Cars and Mini Vans. There will also be a make-up 20-lap Street Stock feature event postponed from Saturday, June 28. The third round of the Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout has also been rescheduled for this Saturday. Racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday Night Test & Tune Up Next at SSP on August 20
The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be on August 20, 2008. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. The fuel pumps fro Miller’s Racing Parts will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits.
