MOD LITES JOIN REGULAR SHOW THIS SUNDAY AT UTICA - ROME SPEEDWAY VERNON , NY- Another action packed evening of high speed entertainment is scheduled for this Sunday August 24 at the Utica-Rome Speedway with Standard Insulation and Schachtler Contracting Inc. presenting Autograph Night with the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and ESDCA Mod Lites. Gates for this exciting program open at 3 p.m. with racing set to begin at 5:30 p.m. Its crunch time in the chase for the $8,000 358-Modified track championship and Pat Ward is currently shown as the leader for the lucrative championship. Looking to repeat his championship is defending champion Stewart Friesen who is sitting in second while 2005 and 2006 champion, third in the standings, Willy Decker is hoping for some good luck and a shot at the title. Mitch Gibbs and Bobby Varin round out the top five in the standings with the rest of the top ten positions filled by Paul Kinney, Jamie Christian, Paul Jensen, Gus Schmidt, and20Jim Davis. Brad Alger is still atop the Sportsman standing with Matt Janczuk in full pursuit with Jason Rood, Jeremy Vunk, and Steve Way trailing. Pro Stocks still show Jim Normoyle leading the way for the championship with Bill Knapp, Rob Seavy, Bret Belden, and Tom Denton rounding out the top five. At press time, Russ Marsden was still leading the in the Pure Stocks, just ahead of Chris Carr. Ron Hawker, Phil Norman, and Frank Hyatt fill out the top five spots. In an earlier visit at The Action Track of the East, Rocco Leone took the win the po pular ESDCA Mod Lite division. The Mod Lites will utilize in inner track again as they battle for the 20 lap win. Always popular with fans, this Sunday will also be Autograph Night when all the cars and stars will come on to the front stretch during intermission. During that time, fans will be allowed on to the racing surface to meet their favorite drivers with an opportunity for an autograph.
