$5 AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE INDUSTRY NIGHT & FREE BUTLER COUNTY NIGHT SATURDAY AT MERCER; 5-DIVISION RACING ON TAP

By Mike Leone

August 19, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Mercer, PA).Mercer Raceway Park will look to complete the fourth straight night of racing this Saturday, August 23 for the final five-division weekly card of the season featuring the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars, Tire Express Modifieds, McElwain Motors FASTRAK Late Models, Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites, and the M&D Paving Mini Stocks with racing beginning at 7 p.m.

Two promotions will highlight the night. The first is the inaugural Automotive Service Industry Night presented by long-time marketing partner Hovis Auto & Truck Supply. All those employed in the automotive and truck sales or automotive and truck service field will be admitted for just $5 by showing employee ID. Their significant other will also be admitted for $5 or the entire family for $15.

"We're always looking at trying new promotions," explained 10th year owner Vicki Emig. "This year, ASI Night is one of those and we're thrilled Cliff Hovis of Hovis Auto & Truck Supply has joined us to make the night possible. The auto and truck industry affects us all on a daily basis keeping us on the highway whether it's us personally or commercially. "

The second promotion on Saturday is the rescheduled Free Butler County Night presented by McClymonds Supply & Transit and Armstrong. All residents of Butler County will be admitted free into the grandstands by showing a valid ID with a Butler County address. All accompanying children 15 and under will also be free.

"The Butler County Night has annually been the biggest draw to the Park of all our promotions," explained Emig. "It was unfortunate that we lost the original date of the promotion on June 28, but that's how things have gone this year. Hopefully with good weather a lot of Butler County residents can take advantage of this great offer and lots of new people can experience of night of racing at The Park."

Arnie Kent is still holding on to the point lead in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars in search of his first track title in his 18th year of racing. The New Castle, Pa. one-time winner holds a 14-point leader over two-time winner and two-time track champion Rod George. The Sprint Car count has really picked up since the middle of June with an average of 21 cars per night and no repeat winners.

After competing last week with the big blocks, the Tire Express Modifieds will also be back in action on Saturday night. 2006 champion Frank Guidace's point lead has shrunk to just two points over 2005 champion Gary Smoker. Both Mercer, Pa. drivers have one win each. Garrett Krummert, the division's defending champion and top winner with three victories, sits 19 points back in third.

Guidace has a little more comfortable lead in the McElwain Motors FASTRAK Late Models as he heads Rusty Moore by 28 points. Guidace may have a strong shot at earning his division-leading fifth victory as standouts Max Blair and Bobby Powell are not expected to be in competition and two-time winner, Brian Booher, will start no better than 12th by virtue of his win in last week's make-up feature.

The Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites has been a five-man race all season long. Fifteen-year- old Bud Watson of Conneaut, Ohio leads the points for the second straight week over the track's top winner, Rod Jones. Watson, a one-time winner, leads six-time winner and defending champion, Rod Jones, by five points. Jones has missed two events this season and got upside down on August 9.

The M&D Paving Mini Stocks appear to be a championship battle between Dan McEwen and Dillon Kineston. McEwen of Mercer is a one-time winner this season and leads Kineston of New Castle, who is a two-time winner this season, by just four points. The affordable divisions continue to grow as three new racers last week brought the total number of competing cars up to 44! There have also been nine different winners in 13 races!

Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 4:30. Warm ups begin at 6:15 and racing begins at 7. For all others, adult admission is $11, students 6-15 are $5, the family pass is $25, and kids five and under are free. Pit passes are $25.

Mercer Raceway Park will be dark as usual over Labor Day Weekend. Racing resumes on Friday, September 5 for the rescheduled "Open Wheel Shootout"/Bill Emig Memorial presented by FireDEX of Butler. A complete new program will be run for the Modifieds ($1,500), 410 Sprints ($1,500), Limited Sprints, Micro Sprints ($300), Mod Lites ($300), and Mini Stocks. It will be the final night of points for the Modifieds. Racing will begin 30 minutes later than usual at 7:30 p.m. Rain checks from July 26 will be accepted.
