Special Fund Created to Raise Capital for Shepard’s Air Ambulance, $17,000 needed, Insurance will not cover transport.
Des Moines, IA (August 20, 2008) - A special fund has been formed to collect donations for a needed air ambulance to transport Jeff Shepard closer to home.
Shepard, driver of the #1Z sprint car from Upperco, MD, was involved in an accident during the Thursday night qualifying of the Knoxville Nationals earlier this month. Shepard suffered a severe head injury and was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Hospital. He is currently listed in serious but stable condition.
The prognosis for Shepard is encouraging but will require additional support at a specialized head trauma unit. An excellent unit has been identified in Baltimore, near Shepard’s home and family. Doctors have said that Shepard will need to be transported via an air ambulance. This expense is estimated to cost $17,000, and is not covered by insurance.
Donations are being accepted through the Steve King Foundation® to help the Shepard family cover this expense. All contributions are tax-deductible.
Donations can be made online at www.SteveKingFoundation.org or mailed to
