THOROLD, Ontario (August 21) – The Three R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – have just become a foursome as Racing has joined Niagara Region’s Green Bin Relaunch Program.
Modern Corporation of course is a big part of that initiative and when the gates open for the TRW St. Catharines co-sponsored event Saturday August 23rd – race fans will learn more of the new initiative.
“The Green Bin relaunch reconfirms Regional Council’s commitment to reaching our goal of 65 per cent diversion by 2012,” said Peter Partington, Regional Chairman in an August 11th announcement, “This program, along with other initiatives implemented by the Region, ensures our environment is being respected and protected.”
In addition to information on the Green Bin program which is being delivered to homes throughout the Region until the end of August, Race Fans can look forward to enjoying the All Kids Recycling Band who perform with a reuse and recycle theme.
“They’re learning about the environment and learning about music,” revealed leader Marie Corbett, “and they’re educating other kids at the same time.”
The 20 member group features performances on empty 18 litre water jugs, plastic pails and garbage bags.
Race fans of course have been waiting a little more than a month for Modern Corporation’s Truck Show ‘n Shine and the Grandstand area should be overflowing with Trucks of all descriptions as well.
“It always makes for an awesome night,” relates (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “some of the finest looking trucks … you’ve got to salute them - the trucks work during the week in some of the worst conditions … they sure take pride in their trucks … to keep them looking so good … especially when they come to the track.”
Racing and the Trucking Industry seem to go hand in hand as many drivers, officials and fans are involved in both.
In and amongst the big rigs somewhere will be the Modern Corporation Team cars of Shawn Sliter and Jamie Gilbert. Look for the #71 and #53 Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lite cars on display and in action on the track.
The two drivers will join all of the hometown heroes that make up the Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions – the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified, Original Pizza Logs Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks, Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lites and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders – all in their second last point events of the season.
“With the heroes of the highway on display … the drivers thrilling the crowd with their on track heroics – it’ shaping up to be quite a night,” adds Bicknell, “and all of us can be heroes – waste diversion heroes by following the three r’s!”
The Green Bin delivery is continuing throughout the Region until the end of August; check the Region’s website (www.niagararegion.ca) for the distribution schedule. If residents have any questions or concerns about the program, they are asked to call the Waste Management Info Line at 905-356-4141 or 1-800-594-5542 or visit the display this weekend at the track.
