Ward shines under the lights on fair night at Fremont Speedway

FREMONT, Ohio - With the lights of the carnival rides shining brightly in
the background, Cory Ward out dueled Jimmy McGrath Jr. to win the richest
prize of his racing career - $1,000 - at Fremont Speedway on BMS Engines/
Excuses Lounge Night, Wednesday, Aug. 20 during the 156th annual Sandusky
County Fair.

For Ward, the defending champion at "The Track That Action Built," and
current point leader, the victory was his fifth of the season and 13th of
his career and came aboard the Budweiser, T.J. Hosang Construction, Hiser's
Transmission, Precision Body & Frame, Eastside Cafe backed truck.

"Jimmy made just one little mistake in turn two and I was able to take
advantage. We raced each other hard...I had it buried to the floor and I
don't think I could have otherwise gotten around him," said Ward in the
Engine Pro Victory Lane. "I have to thank my dad, grandpa and my uncle
Jeff..they work on these trucks all week and I get the fun job."

McGrath jumped into the early lead of the 25-lap feature with fourth
starting Ward moving into second, Kent Brewer third, Steve Sabo fourth and
Jim Keegan rounding out the top five. McGrath and Ward raced side by side
until McGrath slipped up in turn two allowing Ward to drive under for the
lead on lap five. The only caution of the race flew a lap later when Art
Ball made contact with the turn one wall.

When the race resumed, Ward began to pull away while McGrath, Brewer, Sabo
and a fast-qualifier Bob Dible battled hard for second. McGrath patiently
began reeling Ward in and when the leaders hit lapped machine on the 19th
circuit, was on his bumper. Unfortunately, when a lapped machine got a bit
sideways right in front of McGrath, it allowed Ward to pull away. McGrath
would exit the battle with just three laps remaining with mechanical woes.

Ward would take the checkered over Brewer, Dible, Sabo and Jim McGrath Sr.

In the ladies Powder Puff feature, Terri Harrison, wife of 410 sprint driver
David Harrison, and Tammy McGrath, wife of dirt truck driver Jim McGrath
Sr., put on a whale of a show, slicing and dicing through the other lady
truck drivers. In the end, Harrison picked up her second career win by
edging out McGrath with Ashleigh Schwochow, Jess Endicott and Katie Ward
rounding out the top five.

"That was a lot of fun but the lapped trucks made me nervous at the end,"
said Harrison beside her Westfield Electric, Lotyze & Sons Floor Covering
backed truck.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Sunday, Aug. 31 for the All Pro
Clyinder Heads 305 Sprint Invitational.
