Father and son winning combo in the winner’s circle at Cornwall Motor Speedway
Cornwall, On – Sunday, August 24, 2008 – Martin Bélanger – Cornwall Motor Speedway was presenting a complete race program tonight with a special treat for the kids as they were allowed in the pit area during intermission to visit the cars as Tenaquip Industrial Supplies presented this night.
In the 30-lap modified feature, Gage Morin took the lead with Mark Hitchcock right on his back bumper with Laurent Ladouceur in third. Morin was getting away from the field as Ladouceur got second from Hitchcock with an inside move on lap 7. Ladouceur was getting closer to Morin with 11 laps down. Ladouceur grabbed the lead on lap 13 by using the inside lane on Morin. At the halfway, Ladouceur was in the lead with Morin second and Hitchcock in third. The first caution of the race came on lap 18 for Joel Doiron and Morin who was second headed to the pits. Ladouceur go a quick jump on the restart with some 3-wide action in the back, as Kyle Dingwall was looking really strong as he cracked the top 5 with 10 laps to go. Ladouceur quickly got a good lead over the field with less than 5 laps to go. Ladouceur led the final laps to win the feature over Mark Hitchcock, Mitch Jock, Delbert Legrow and Kyle Dingwall completed the top 5. With everyone getting the same points next week, Carey Terrance just needs to participate next week and he will be the 2008 track champion. Delbert Legrow and Stéphane Lafrance won the qualifying heats.
A fine field of 21 cars took the green in the 20-lap feature race as Ricky Thompson was the early leader but Roch Aubin passed him on lap 2 when caution came out for Steve Johnston on the following lap. Aubin got a good start but Ghyslain Valade was the new leader on lap 4 as he made a good pass. The caution came out 2 laps later for Junior Barnes who stopped in turn 4. Valade had company on the restart as Gilles Godard was side by side with him as Roger Hamilton got a right rear flat tire and caution went out on lap 8. Godard got a good start and was the new leader but Valade came back as they swapped the lead when an accident occurred in turn 2 on lap 11. Valade and Godard got at it again as a 5-car accident occurred including Louie Jackson who is currently the point`s leader with only 4 points over Ladouceur who is second behind Dion Oakes. Ladouceur grabbed the lead on the green with Oakes second and Denis Gauvreau third but a three car battle went on for third as Stefanski got it as Joey Ladouceur led the final laps to win the feature and just like the modifieds, he needs to be present next week to be declared champion of the Pro-Stock classe. Oakes finished second, Stefanski third, Valade fourth and Allen Peters completed the top 5.

Michel Desjardins grabbed the lead in the 15-lap Semi-Pro feature as the first caution came on lap 2 for Sébastien Bazinet. Desjardins stayed first when Bazinet brought a second caution on the third lap. Desjardins was still the leader and led 2 laps when an accident occurred in turn 3 on the fifth lap. Desjardins in the lead with Kevin Jodoin second as another caution slowed the field with 9 laps to go. Desjardins pulled away with Stéphane Carrière second and Jodoin third. Caution came out on lap 12 for Jodoin. Desjardins led the final laps to win the feature over Bob Delormier and Marc Lalonde. Carrière and Desjardins were the winners in the qualifiers.
Bob Ray took the early lead in the 12-lap rookie feature as he led the first lap when caution came out. Ray was still the leader with Gerry Oszczakiewicz in the mix as he took the top spot on the 3rd lap from Ray. The battle was going on between Ray and Pierre Robidoux for second as the feature got at the halfway point. Oszczakiewicz was alone in front with less than 5 laps to go. He led the final laps to win the feature over Robidoux and Marc Usereau finished third. Pierre Robidoux and Jean-Marc Larose won the heats.
A big night next week as it will be the annual Jiffy 150 as the 358-modifieds will have a 100-lap feature event counting for the MrDIRTcar series. The Pro-Stock category will also have a 50-lap event, which will also be a race for the MrDIRTcar Pro-Stock series. The best drivers from both categories will be in Cornwall. A huge car-count is expected for this great event!
