FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EMPIRE SUPER SPRINTS AND FIREWORKS JOIN PROGRAM THIS SUNDAY AT UTICA - ROME SPEEDWAY

VERNON , NY- This Sunday August 31, the Empire Super Sprints will invade the Utica-Rome Speedway for their third and final visit in 2008. Joining the super fast sprint cars on Gates-Cole Associates and Nye Ford night will be the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. To celebrate the holiday weekend, a huge fireworks display will cap off the action packed evening of racing. Gates will open at 2:30 p.m. with racing underway at 5 p.m.

Pat Ward has built himself a comfortable advantage in the headline 358-Modifieds division and seems to have the $8,000 championship secured, barring any serious setbacks. The battle for the second spot in the lucrative runner up spot continues to rage on however, as Willy Decker, Mitch Gibbs, Stewart Friesen, and Bobby Varin are in a heated battle for the position. Paul Kinney, Jamie Christian, Gus Schmidt, Jim Davis, and Ted Lamb round out the top ten positions in the point standings.

Brad Alger hopes to close out his best ever season in the Utica-Rome Sportsman ranks with the track title, but Matt Janczuk is still within striking distance with hopes of claiming his first title. Jason Rood sits in the third spot, ahead of Jeremy Vunk and Steve Way .

In the Pro Stocks, Jim Normoyle has led the standings for most of the season as he looks to capture his first title at the speedway. Normoyle leads a competitive field of Pro Stocks that includes Bill Knapp, Rob Seavy, Shawn Frost, Bret Belden, and Tom Denton.

For the first time in several seasons, Russ Marsden is not the point leader in the Utica-Rome Speedway Pure Stock division, as Chris Carr has found himself leading the class after two straight victories. Marsden sits just six points out at press time, ahead of Ron Hawker, Phil Norman, and Frank Hyatt.

Former Sportsman and 358-Modified standout Jason Barney has found a new home racing sprint cars, as he has dominated the last two Empire Super Sprints events at Utica-Rome Speedway as he bested a talent laden field of 360 sprinters to grab the wins. Steve Poirer, Chuck Hebing, Jessica Zemken, Lance Yonge, Justin Barger, Alain Bergeron, and Jeff Cook just some of the drivers looking to dethrone Barney.

Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon NY , just minutes from the New York State Thruway. More information is available at www.uticaromespeedway.com. The speedway office can be contacted by calling (315) 829-4557.
