Byron Stowe Claims KOIL Tour Victory at Brushcreek
(Peebles, Ohio) The KOIL Legends Tour invaded Brushcreek Mototsports Complex on Saturday August 23 for "The People's Defender Legends Tour Night" / Dave Purdin Auto Sales "FLY-IN" Night. Pre race activities included bicycle and foot races for the kids. As the warm summer sun faded into the night action heated up on the 1/3 mile speed plant. The "One Man Show" Byron Stowe claimed the feature win in the inaugural visit for the KOIL Legends Tour. Winchester, Ohio's Weasel Rhoades took feature wins in both the late model and the modified class. While Aaron Chesser picked up the bomber feature win. Eric Baker picked up the Chevette/4 cylinder feature win and Matt Nichols took home another trophy 4 cylinder win. Following the late model feature four lucky fans were chosen to race a school bus around the track for a lap, the one that had the fastest lap time won a big screen TV from Dave Purdin Auto Sales. Barry Doss and Weasel Rhoades brought the late model feature field to the green. Rhoades jumped out to the early lead followed by Doss, Mark Morrison, Clint Jamison, and Scott Jones. Morrison slid by Doss on lap two to take over second while Rhoades still held the point. The action was slowed with a lap four caution when Mike Meyers spun in turn four. On the restart, Rhoades jumped out to a slight lead over Morrison, Doss, and Jamison. Over the next three circuits Rhoades would stretch his lead to about three car lengths. The action would be slowed with a lap seven caution when Mark Morrison got the right side wheels off the back stretch, before returning to the racing surface and then spinning his mount into the turn three wall. On the restart, Rhoades would jump out to the lead over Doss, Jamison, Jones and Scott Godsey. The action was quickly slowed when the 00 of Brian Day went around in turn two. On the restart, Rhoades once again pulled to a three car length lead over Doss. Rhoades would maintain the advantage over the next six circuits. The action was slowed on lap thirteen when the caution waved for the 82 Brian Arnett, who went around in turn two. On the restart, Rhoades would pull to a slight lead over Doss. Over the next five circuits Rhoades would build his lead to four car lengths over Doss. The final caution waved on lap 18 for Scott Jones leaving a two lap shoot out. On the restart, Rhoades jumped out to a slight lead over Doss. As the two ran down the back stretch Doss began to make up some ground. The two came by the flag stand to take the white flag nose to tail. As they entered turn one Doss moved to the inside but Weasel emerged from turn two with a slight lead. Weasel entered turn three with a slight lead over Doss. When the duo came through turn four Doss shot under Weasel in one last effort to claim the point, but Rhoades would hold him off by half a car length at the line to pick up the feature win. Following Rhoades and Doss across the line were Clint Jamison, Mike Meyers and Brian Day rounding out the top five. Tony Watcher and John Gutman brought the KOIL legend feature field to the green. At the drop of the green Gutman jumped out to the early lead with Tony Steffen, Tony Watcher and Byron Stowe in tow. By lap two, fifth starting Stowe found his way into second. Over the next three circuits, Stowe tracked leader Gutman pertinently waiting for the opportunity to claim the point. Stowe slid by Gutman on lap five to claim the lead. The action was slowed with a lap six caution the Gary Rowland went around in turn four. On the restart, Stowe jumped out to the lead over Gutman, Steffen, James Edsall, and Matt Nichols. Stowe maintained the point over the next five circuits. The action was slowed on lap eleven when Tom Kline rolled to a stop bringing out the caution. On the restart, Stowe would jump out to a slight lead over Gutman, Steffen, Edsall and Nichols. The final caution waved on lap fourteen when the 99 of Dustin Sword went around in turn two. On the restart, Stowe pulled to about a four car length lead over Gutman, Steffen, Nichols and Edsall. Stowe would maintain the advantage over the final six circuits to pick up the KOIL Legends Tour feature win. Following Stowe across the line was John Gutman, Tony Steffen, Matt Nichols, James Edsell rounding out the top five. Twenty second starting Tom Partin came up just short of a top five finish, finishing in sixth place. Weasel Rhoades and Mike Gross brought the modified feature field to the green. Rhoades jumped out to the early lead followed by Gross, Brad White, Mike Poe and Dave Jamison. The action was slowed with a lap four caution when Mike Poe rolled to a stop on the front stretch. On the restart, Rhoades jumped out to the lead over Gross. The action was quickly slowed with a three car pile up in turn one. While under caution, Monte Woods and Brad White would go pit side ending their night. The field was lined back up with the caution charged to Darrell Reno putting him on the tail. On the restart, Rhoades jumped out to the lead over Mike Gross, Dave Jamison, John Bavard and Mike Stark. Over the next eight laps Rhoades would stretch his lead. Rhoades would momentarily be slowed on lap twelve when he came up on a pair of cars running side by side. Patiently waiting for the right opportunity Rhoades would go three wide down the back stretch on lap thirteen to lap the duo. Rhoades would cruise to the his second feature win of the night. Following Rhoades across the line was Mike Gross, Dave Jamison, John Bavard, and Darrell Reno rounding out the top five. Aaron Chesser and Shane Newman brought the bomber feature field to the green. Chesser jumped out to the early lead followed by Tracy Ross, Shane Newman, Mike Brust and Mark Keatzel. Shane Newman slid by Tracy Ross on lap five to take over second, while Chesser held the point. Now in second Newman would set his eyes on front runner Chesser, but Chesser was up to the task holding off Newman over the final five laps to pick up the feature win. Following Chesser and Newman across the line was Tracy Ross, Mark Keatzel, and Tommy Mossbarger rounding out the top five. Mike Stickland and Randy Johnson brought the chevette/4 cylinder feature field to the green. Stickland jumped out to the early lead, followed by Johnson, Eric Baker, Steve Woods, and Chris Stickland. Johnson moved by Stickland to claim the point on lap three when Stickland began experiencing mechanical problems. Johnson held the lead for the next two circuits before Eric Baker slid by on lap five. Baker held the lead over the final four laps to pick up the feature win. Following Baker across the line was Randy Johnson, Steve Woods, Chris Strickland, and Brandon Black rounding out the top five. Brushcreek Motorsports Complex will take August 30th off. Action returns to the 1/3 mile speed plant on Saturday September 6 with the Bomber Shoot Out, Bombers $1,000 to win, plus regular classes.
