PENN CAN SPEEDWAY RESCHEDULES KING OF THE CAN

MODIFIED AND SPORTSMAN SPECIAL

Susquehanna, PA…The management of Penn Can Speedway has decided that running the King of the Can modified and sportsman races Sunday September 14th might just be a little too much racing for teams and fans on a very busy race weekend. After weighing the pros and cons of racing after two of the biggest races of the season held that Saturday September 13th,(New Yorker 200 and Freedom 76’er) it has been decided to reschedule the King of the Can modified, sportsman and pure stock races to the following Friday night.

“When we made the schedule back in the winter we were not aware of how the economy and fuel prices would affect race teams and fans,” explains Reed Miller . “Al (Wilcox) and I have agonized over this move and finally came to the realization that sometimes too much racing is not a good thing especially in this tight economic time.”

The Saturday night portion of the scheduled weekend will still take place featuring the King of the Can races for the late models, sportsman, super stocks, 4 cylinders, plus races for the 600 modifieds and the CRSA Sprints. A full night of racing is planned with over 120 cars expected to be in competition.

The rescheduling of the other King of the Can races will take place Friday September 19th. On the racing card that evening will be the King of the Can modified feature plus the ROC Sportsman event. The World Products Empire Series for the IMCA modifieds is also scheduled along with the Dart Series for the pure stocks.

“We have looked at all of the schedules and think this will work out best for race teams and fans alike. We are adding four guaranteed starters to the big King of the Can modified event. The winners of the Coalcracker 100 from Big Diamond, Freedom 76’er at Grandview, and the New Yorker 200 at Utica Rome, and the Five Mile Point point champion will have a spot in the race.” states Miller .

Gates will open at 5:00 with the first heat race scheduled to take the track at 7:15 . For more information about racing at Penn Can Speedway call the track office at 570-585-9928 or on the web at www.penncan.com. The speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania just a short drive from both the Binghamton and Scranton areas. The speedway is sponsored in part for the 2008 season by great corporate partners including Don’s Automotive Mall, Gary ’s U-Pull-It, Pump-N-Pantry Stores, Trackside Products, Bernheisel Race Components, Pine Line Auto, American Race Tires, and Sunoco Race Fuels
