Consistency is the Key: Bobby Herrington Turns in a Pair of Nearly Identical Weekend Performances
By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications
With his 2008 race season winding down, Bobby Herrington finally did something he’s been waiting nearly all year to do. Run almost the same races at 2 different places. The 17 year-old from Elginburg, Ontario who has been a regular at Autodrome Edelweiss in Cantley, Quebec and Brockville Ontario Speedway this season has been frustrated by his on-track performance – but recently found something to smile about.
Friday, August 22nd at Edelweiss, Herrington steered his #25 Stover Bus Lines/Old Forester/Kingston Paint and Decorating/Len Corcoran Excavating/Independent Insurance and Investment Group-Marty Stover Bicknell small block to a win in the night’s first qualifying heat. That event included some of the track’s top runners, including Brian McDonald, Laurent Ladouceur and Pierre Dagenais. In the DIRTcar 358 modified feature, Herrington was 7th at the checkered flag. With the modifieds part of just 1 more show on the track’s 2008 schedule, Bobby currently sits 5th in division points.
Saturday, August 23rd the Herrington Motorsports team checked-in at Brockville Ontario Speedway for a regular night of action. A total of 22 small block mods were in attendance, but again Herrington claimed the coveted checkered flag in the night’s first heat. As was the case the night before at Edelweiss, Brockville’s first heat had some of the top drivers in the class, including Todd Stewart and Kyle Dingwall. The night’s 30 feature race started with a bang – literally. A multi-car wreck in turn 2 on just the 2nd lap collected Adam Moore, Andy Lloyd, Bill Gill, Brian McDonald and others. Herrington was fortunate enough to dodge the mishap.
As the show wore on, Bobby Herrington took-up a ‘defensive’ driving position, rather than the ‘offensive’ tactics being displayed by the leaders. Choosing not to punish his car, Herrington watched as others charged to the front. He saw a pair of competitors running high and low grooves just in front of him – until the driver using the outside lane slipped off the track in turn 4. The conservative approach paid-off with an 8th place finish and allowed Bobby to hang onto his spot in the top 10 of Brockville’s point’s race.
This weekend, Herrington Motorsports will wrap-up their 2008 campaign with a Friday, August 29th event at Autodrome Edelweiss and a Saturday, August 30th show at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
