8th Annual York County Nationals This Saturday Night at SSP
Newberrytown, PA (August 27, 2008) – Stock Car Saturday Night racing action returns on August 30, with the 8th Annual York County Nationals featuring the Late Models (32-lap feature), Street Stocks (25-lap feature), Xtreme Stocks (25-lap feature), Four Cylinder Stock Cars (25-lap feature) and the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Vans.
For the first time in 8 years, the $1,200-to-win 32-lap feature will highlight a non-open wheel division with the Late Models. SSP returned to its roots of Stock Car racing in May of 2007. The Street Stock winner will receive $500 and the Xtreme Stock winner will receive $400 for the efforts. The 25-lap Four Cylinder Stock Car feature will pay $350 to the winner.
This weekend’s event will also mark the 150th race night under the direction and ownership of Todd & Rhonda Fisher since buying the track in the winter of 2003. “I can’t wait until we reach the 300-race milestone in a few years as there were many individuals who gave us only 3 races or less before we would be shut down,” said Todd Fisher. “We have made huge strides in the past two years and with the addition of our 1/8 mile “Outback Track” for the youngsters, the years to come will be very exciting and fun for all of those involved.” The “150 races” is the most consecutive races under one owner since the 1980’s when the late-Jeff Hartlaub owned the track. The speedway has had three different owners between Hartlaub and the Fishers.
The ownership and management of the speedway does not appear to be changing anytime in the future as stability has once again been restored to the 4/10th mile Newberrytown oval during the past five years. Opening night for next season has also been announced for Saturday, April 11, 2009. The season opener will feature the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks and one more division to be determined. Racing will continue on Saturday nights throughout 2009 along with a few special events also added. The speedway will also host the popular Wednesday Night Test & Tune Sessions during the 2009 season as well.
On Saturday night, the pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:25 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
A special $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from last Saturday nights races will be in place for this Saturday’s events. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
The popular Stock Car Saturday Night racing program at the Susquehanna Speedway Park last week on August 23 provided the usual standard of wheel-to-wheel action all evening long as young drivers dominated the feature events. Dover ’s Charles Potts won the 20-lap Late Model feature. Jimmy Slaseman of New Cumberland picked up his career first Street Stock main feature event. Middletown ’s Eric Walker won the 20-lap Street Stock make-up feature postponed from Saturday, June 28. Alex Updegraff of Etters also won his first career Xtreme Stock Car feature. Stephen Nederostek of Walnutsport pulled of last lap pass for the Legends Car feature event win. York Haven’s Kenny Latz won the Mini Van feature event.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
