(Woodhull, NY) September 13, 2008 at the Woodhull Raceway will be a big night for the 358 Modifieds as it will be the 4th Annual Lyle Sherwood Memorial event. Named in memory of one of the Woodhull Raceway’s best ever competitors, the Lyle Sherwood Memorial is fast becoming a can’t miss show for both racers and fans alike.
“Last year we had a record 358 Modified car count of 48 entries for the Sherwood Memorial, stated Woodhull owner, Vern Wasson. It will be tough to top that number, but the bottom line is that this event brings out many of the top 358 teams in the region. The competition is some of the best around and I don’t think this year will be any different.”
According to T3 All Star Series for 358 Modifieds promoter, Kenny Shupp Jr., “When we put this series together four years ago it was with racers like Lyle Sherwood in mind. Lyle was a guy who loved to travel to different tracks; he was a well known and very likeable man. Unfortunately he met his untimely death before he ever had a chance to run a series event. We still remember Lyle at each series stop with a lap 17 Leader Award commerating his famous car number 17. There isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t think about Lyle and what he meant to racing.”
The Woodhull Raceway is all about family and tradition. It is what has made the popular Southern Tier speed plant so successful for the past 44 years. Like the George and Jim Williams Memorial as well as the Scott Dennison Memorial events, the Lyle Sherwood Memorial will always be on the Woodhull Raceway schedule of events.
The VanPelt brothers have had a stranglehold on the Lyle Sherwood MemorialT3 All Star Series events at Woodhull having claimed all three of the previously run September events. Both Billy and Curt VanPelt will be plenty tough in this year’s event; however one can’t count out the likes of Steve Hartman Jr., Kevin Chilson, Frank Dunning, Dylan Dewert, Ray Bliss Jr., Bryan Terwilliger, Dave Dubois, Dale Welty and Ronnie White. They will try and protect their home turf against such outstanding T3 regulars as Brad Rapp, Jimmy Holden, Mark Frankhouser, Brian Swarthout, Eric Fisher and many, many more.
The popular BRP Can Am 360 Late Model Series will make its second and final stop at Woodhull on the same night with the likes of Wayne Robertson, Glen Whritenour, Jeremy and Mike Wonderling, Bob Buono and Larry Knowles trying to stop an onslaught of invaders from all across the Twin Tiers.
A Street Stock Open event will wrap up the 3 Star attraction on Sept. 13 and should weather become an issue Sunday, Sept. 14 has been set aside as a make up date.
Two very high powered sponsors in Dewert Speed of Corning and Insinger Race Fuels of Dushore, Pa. will team up to sponsor the night of action.
Gates for the Sept. 13 event open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 and for more information including the Woodhull Raceway Report Weekly Audio Cast simply log on at www.woodhullraceway.com. The T3 All Star Series is linked directly to the Woodhull Raceway site.
