Thorold, Ontario (August 28) – Two years ago, Merrittville Speedway’s Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Division Points Race went right down to the wire with Wayne Conn holding a one point edge over Alan Sleight going in to the final night.

Fast forward to this Saturday August 30th and an almost identical situation awaits two drivers however the gap is twice as big in the Brian’s Tire Repairs Labor Day FANtastic.

Mike Bowman leads Tyler McPherson by two points with both of the St. Catharines’ drivers looking to finish the night with their first ever title in the division.

In a complete opposite to that point battle, McPherson recently was the low man overall in the Lucas Oil Shoot Out by dirttrackdigest.com – earning his first ever title in that unique 5 race series.

Defending Merrittville Sportsman Champion Chad Chevalier also wants to have a say in the final outcome as the Port Colborne driver sits just 5 back of top spot.

“You really can’t ask for better circumstances,” anticipates Merrittville GM Erica Bicknell, “with the Sportsmen race as close as it is …. and other divisions too … throw in our Autograph night … race fans can look forward to quite a FAN-tastic night.”

The Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Division Overall race is just as close as the Sportsman with defending champion Abel Castelein trying to keep at least his current two point margin as well over former champion Trevor Goulding.

The 4 Cylinders look forward to a race within a race as Aaron Wiley attempts to repeat as Triple Crown Champion.

Introduced last season, 3 events throughout the season aside from the overall points combine in this Mini-Series. Wiley enjoys a 25 point lead over Castelein and Goulding who are tied for the runner-up spot.

In the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified Points - Chad Brachmann leads second generation driver Scott Wood by just 10 going into the 50 lap John Spencer Memorial presented by the Merrittville Speedway Reunion Committee.

The defending Spencer Memorial Winner is Pete Bicknell who still holds an outside chance at his 20th Career Title at the Thorold track, sitting 14 points behind Brachmann.

The Hoosier Stock Division has defending champion Rob Murray looking to repeat as he leads Dolf McCready by 24 points. While Murray has probably been the most consistent, McCready leads all Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Drivers with 7 wins in 2008.

The Hoosier Stocks will of course be the busiest with a trip to the Brighton Speedway set for Sunday for the first of 3 Back to Back to Back 50 lap Events – the first two which are combined events in the 2008 Duel on the Dirt against the Pro Stocks.

As the Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lite Race teams prepare to split into two divisions for the J&S Heating Rose Webber International that draws teams from all over the US – Shawn Sliter holds a comfortable 45 point lead over Adam Leslie.
