BUSIEST FALL SCHEDULE EVER ON TAP AT MERCER BEGINNING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5

By Mike Leone

August 28, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Mercer, PA).Mercer Raceway Park will be dark as usual over the upcoming Labor Day Weekend. Racing resumes on Friday, September 5, which will be the beginning of the busiest and richest fall racing season ever that will conclude on Saturday, October 4.

Up next at Mercer Raceway Park is the rescheduled "Open Wheel Shootout"/Bill Emig Memorial presented by FireDEX of Butler on Friday, September 5. The show was originally scheduled back on July 26, but was rained out before all of the heat race could be completed. A complete new program will be run for the Tire Express Modifieds ($1,500), Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprints ($1,500), Limited Sprints, Micro Sprints ($300), Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites ($300), and M&D Paving Mini Stocks. It will be the final night of points for the Modifieds.

The only difference in the show is that the Micro Sprints have replaced the PA 305 Sprints, which are unable to return, and racing will begin 30 minutes later than usual at 7:30 p.m. Rain checks from July 26 will be accepted. The rain date is Friday, September 19.

The following day on Saturday the 6th will be the second annual USA-East Regional Finals - a Full Pull Productions Truck and Tractor Pull featuring the Semi Trucks, "Run What Ya Brung" Trucks, 4x4 Diesel Trucks, 4x4 Gas Trucks, Limited Pro Stock Tractors, and Super Farm Tractors. Pulling begins at 6:30 p.m. and the rain date is Sunday the 7th at 2 p.m.

"The September 5 and 6 weekend has kind of turned into like our annual American Thunder Weekend over Memorial Day weekend ," acknowledged 10th year owner Vicki Emig. "Originally we weren't scheduled to race that weekend, but it has turned into a nice date to fit for our rescheduled Open Wheel Shootout, which includes my father's annual memorial race. I wanted to be able to preserve this event for the racers and fans, and there isn't any racing the entire weekend for the Sprints and Modifieds in the region."

One week later on Saturday, September 13 it's back to racing and the 20th annual Western PA Sprint Championship. This will be a huge night as the Sprints will be competing in their final event of the season with $2,000 on the line and also featured will be the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series in a $1,200 to-win event. The Series has been averaging more than 30 cars per event. The E-Mods will be making their second appearance of the season racing for $600 to-win. Also on the card will be the Mod Lites and Mini Stocks racing for extra money. It's the final night of points, and George L. Wilson Corp. Night.

The next open practice will take place on Wednesday, September 17. This will be a great opportunity to get ready for the upcoming specials at not only Mercer, but also all of the area tracks. Everything begins one hour earlier than the normal practice times with gates opening at 3 p.m. and practice 4 p.m. until dark. The rain date is the following day.

The ninth annual "Little Guy Nationals" returns to The Park on Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27 presented by American Racer/Lias Tire. Friday will feature Stock Cars for $1,000 to-win, Mod Lites for $800 to-win presented by Truk Rodz by Jones Performance, Micro Sprints for $750 to-win, and Mini Stocks for $150 to-win. Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. the T3 All-Star Modifieds will be in town to take on the locals for $2,000 to-win. The Stocks are back for $2,000 to-win plus a B and C feature along with the STAR's Mod Lites for $1,000 presented by Wedge Motorsports. After a one-year hiatus, the Strictly Stocks will return replacing the Demo Derby.

The year will come to a close on Saturday, October 4. It's the newly named "Fall Brawl" presented by McElwain Motors. Night 1 of the $250,000 FASTRAK Grand Nationals for the FASTRAK Late Models will feature a 30-lap, $2,000 to-win event for eligible racers. The Super Late Models will make their first appearance since March 31, 2007 racing for $2,000 to-win. The E-Mods have been added to this event for their richest event in the history of Mercer with $2,000 also on the line, which is being presented by Gregg's Auto Body. The Mini Stocks will complete the show in what is expected to be double features. Racing begins early at 6 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, October 5.

"October 4th is going to be a huge night- probably one of the biggest ever," stated Emig. "It was going to be big as it was with two $2,000 to-win events for FASTRAK and the Supers- now we're adding a third with the E-Mods. The E-Mods have always wanted a big show at Mercer and with them losing several of their season ending specials at regional tracks we felt like this was the perfect time to do it and what a way to end 2008! I have to thank McElwains for their support during the season and making this event possible. Also, P.P.C. Lubricants has come on board as a Corporate Night sponsor for this show."

Be sure to circle Saturday, January 3 on your 2009 calendar as "Crashing Through the Snow" returns to Mercer featuring the "Jack Frost 150" Enduro paying $1,000 to-win and the "Snowball" Demo Derby. Entries have already started coming in for the Enduro. Racing begins at 1 p.m.
