Familiar Names Headline Woodhull List of Winners as VanPelt, Lawson, Whritenour, Smith, Morseman and Hill Pick Up Checkers

Woodhull, NY. Five of the six feature events on NAPA Auto Parts and Knowles LP Gas night were claimed by drivers with multiple victories in the 2008 season. Only Morgan's Auto Repair Street Stock winner Jeff Smith was a fresh face in victory lane. The skies were blue and the track was perfect for an action packed night of racing as 144 race machines filled the pits of the high banked 1/3 mile clay oval.

Kevin Chilson drew the pole for the LJ Kennedy Trucking 358 Modified feature, but he had six-time feature winner Billy VanPelt lined up to his outside. Billy took advantage of his front row spot and charged to an early lead, with Chilson left to fend off Stacy Jackson for second. As Billy quickly stretched his lead to 7 car lengths, Jackson and Bath, NY pilot Dave Dubois clipped at the heels of Chilson, fighting hard for third. VanPelt was encountering lap traffic by lap five, but still enjoyed a 10 car length advantage over Chilson. Jackson soon cleared Dubois for third and Ray Bliss moved up to challenge Dubois for fourth. A rash of cautions kept bunching the field and allowed Billy's teammate and brother Curt VanPelt to pick his way through traffic after having started 18th. Jackson took advantage of a restart to slip by Chilson and set his sights on Billy. Bliss powered around Dubois for fourth, while Curt VanPelt had positioned himself just outside the top five and was still passing at will. In the late stages of the race, Curt moved to the high side and motored around Dubois and Bliss and had Chilson in his sights as Billy led the field to the white flag. Billy stayed strong, with Jackson bringing home a fine second place finish. Curt VanPelt used a last lap pass to nip Chilson as the stripe. Bliss edged out Dubois to round out the top five. Billy VanPelt's 7th win of the season put an exclamation point on the recent dominance of the Ted White Racing team as the victory was number 100 of the group's career.

25 of the NAPA 360 Late Models rolled to the drop of the green, with two past champions, Glenn Whritenour and Wayne Robertson, heading up the field. The two drivers quickly showed their championship form as they battled side-by-side, lap after lap with the crowd cheering every move. Robertson chose to take his #20 to the high side as the #15 of Whritenour dug low on the speedway. Many times the two exchanged the lead, one up by a bumper and then the other. As the door to door battle waged, the two checked out slightly on the rest of the field, and left John Waters to try and hold off Bryce Davis for third. All eyes were on the top two though, as they entered lap traffic and began slicing and dicing their way through the slower cars, all the while staying virtually even with each other. As the war waged up front, Jeremy Wonderling was steadily maneuvering his way to the front, disposing of Davis and Bruce Miller and then set his sights on Waters. With the white flag in the air, Robertson had wedged his way to the low side, but Whritenour would not go away, staying stuck to the right side door of the #20. As the two entered the last set of corners, they made side to side contact and Robertson's car seemed to quit, and sat dead in the water for a split second in the middle of the turn. Whritenour crossed the stripe with a hard-fought victory as Wonderling took advantage of the situation and claimed second. Waters edged Miller for third, with Davis rounding out the top five. Robertson was finally able to get his machine back under motion and settled for a disappointing ninth.

Donnie Lawson continued his dominance of the S&W Awards Crate Sportsman division, tallying up his 7th victory of '08. Mike Jackson put together a solid drive to finish second, with Art Goodier crossing in third. Larry Keegan edged out Mike Buchanan for fourth, as Buchanan logged in his best run of the season.

Veteran Jeff Smith picked up his 1st Morgan's Auto Repair Street Stock feature win of the season, edging out rookie Brian Butler. It was a good turn of events for Smith, who had suffered a rash of bad luck this season, having blown and engine and burned up two rear ends in the last month. Cliff Moss led his teammate Brett Marlatt across the line for third, with Mike Williams continuing his string of top fives by taking home fifth.

Ted Morseman Jr. has absolutely dominated the Signs Plus Mini Stock division this year and Saturday night was no exception, as he chalked up win number 10 of the year. Brian Grant Sr. edged fellow veteran Ed Mills at the line for second. Bill Gardner enjoyed one of his best finishes this season by running fourth, with Jason Ketrow filling in the top five.

The three teammates known as the "B Boys" swept the LaBarron Brothers FWD main event, as Ron Hill put his #B3 in victory lane for the 5th time this year. Gary Baker drove his #B4 machine to second as Mark Schenck completed the shutout, motoring his #B2 to third. Brian Grant Jr. took home fourth over Randy Smith in fifth.
