Danny O’Brien and Pete Stefanski winners of the Jiffy 150!



Cornwall, On – Sunday, August 31, 2008 – Martin Bélanger – Cornwall Motor Speedway was presenting the annual Jiffy 150. As usual, a huge car count and one of the best crowds of the year was on hand for this show. It was race #4 for the MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Series; the modified had a 100-lap event. The Pro-Stock had a 50-lap feature race, which was race #5 of the MrDIRTcar Pro-Stock Series. A complete race program was also on deck for the other categories.



John Lazore and Pete Bicknell led the field of 32 cars to start the Jiffy 100, 100-lap modified feature event counting for the MrDIRTcar 358 modified series. Larose took the early lead with Bicknell second when Martin Roy passed him as caution came out for Jessica Zemken on lap 2. Roy was now the new leader as he went in front of Larose before that caution. Roy had a good jump on the restart with a good battle for second between Lazore and Laurent Ladouceur with the #23 car taking second and his now on the back bumper of Roy. Ladouceur used the inside lane to take the lead on lap 7. Ladouceur was now in traffic with 10 laps down and Lazore took the opportunity to take the lead but Ladouceur came charging again and retook the top spot on lap 11. Roy was now second after passing Lazore when Tommy Flannigan brought the second caution of the race on lap 14. Ladouceur stayed in the lead with Danny O’Brien making a great charge as he cracked the top 5 after starting in the 12th starting spot on the grid with 17 laps down. O’Brien passed Lazore for fourth on lap 19. Ladouceur was now in heavy traffic with 25 laps in the books. Roy was waiting for Ladouceur to make an error. O’Brien made an incredible move in the backstretch and went from fourth to first in one jump in turn 3 with 31 laps completed. Todd Burley brought the caution on lap 33. When the greens came back on, an accident occurred and Yan Bussière used the towing services. O’Brien was the leader with Bicknell looking to get third but Roy resisted. O’Brien was back in traffic on lap 43. Pierre Dagenais made a great move from the outside to take third on lap 44 but Bicknell was right with him as Martin Roy who was running in the top 5, had problems on lap 47. O’Brien still in front with Bicknell and Ladouceur looking for second and Ladouceur won the battle with Terrance now fifth.



At the halfway point, Danny O’Brien was the leader followed by Ladouceur, Bicknell, Dingwall and Terrance. On lap 52, Terrance took fourth spot from Dingwall when Lance Willix stopped in turn 4 with 53 laps down. O’Brien still the leader with Terrance running hard on top and took third as Bicknell now fifth as Dingwall passed him. Terrance was very strong on the outside as he passed Ladouceur for second on lap 64. Terrance was getting closer to O’Brien. The leaders were now in traffic as they hit the 70-lap mark. Joel Doiron was in fifth spot after passing Dagenais. Chris Steele stopped in the middle of the backstretch on lap 74. The race gets back underway with only 17 laps to go as O’Brien had company with Terrance but the ``Pocket Rocket`` got a comfortable lead. Dagenais and Bicknell were doing battle for the fifth spot as Terrance was getting closer to O’Brien with 10 laps to go. O’Brien started to use Terrance’s racing line and got a few cars in distance as they were in heavy traffic with only 2 laps to go. O’Brien led the final laps to with this important race over Kyle Dingwall, Laurent Ladouceur, Pete Bicknell and Pierre Dagenais completed the top 5. O’Brien was really happy in the interview: ``we got the low line working, it has been a long time before we had good run at Cornwall, I am very happy!`` Dingwall got second as Terrance went too high in the final laps: ``Will take second, as we got many seconds this year !’’ and Ladouceur who got the same luck as Dingwall: ``Third place is really good for us, the car worked really good during the feature.`` Dagenais, Terrance, Ladouceur, Alex Fortier and Doiron were the 5 heat winners.



The series will continue will continue next Saturday, September 6 at the BOS, Brockville Ontario Speedway with a 75-lap feature event.



Pierre Dagenais had the fastest time in the modified time trials with a time of 13.002 seconds with an average speed of 69.220mph.



Dion Oakes took the lead in the Jiffy 50 MrDIRTcar Pro-Stock series feature when the first caution came out on lap 2. Ladouceur took the top spot when caution came on the next lap with Stéphane Lebrun having troubles in turn 4. Ladouceur had company with Oakes on the restart with Stefanski now in third when caution came out on lap 6 for Bruno Cyr. Ladouceur leading the way for the next 5 laps when Mike Martin and Ricky Thompson got together in the front stretch on lap 11. Ladouceur had strong start with Stefanski using the outside lane to grab second from Oakes on lap 14. PJ Peters was also strong on the outside as he was now fourth. Louie Jackson was now in eight after starting from the 25th spot. Jackson was now in a battle for fifth with Travis Back with 22 laps in the books. Roch Aubin brought the yellow as he stopped in turn 2. Stefanski got a good jump to take the lead but Ladouceur was still there as the leaders got at the halfway point with PJ Peters in third, Oakes and Gauvreau completing the top 5. A multi-car accident occurred in turn 2 on lap 27. Ladouceur was back in the lead on the restart with Denis Gauvreau and PJ Peters going at it for third as Gauvreau now third. Jackson seemed pretty strong on the outside as took 2 spots and was now third. Stefanski was making a charge on Ladouceur and took the lead from the bottom lane on lap 35. Jackson was trying hard and lost control of his car and Gauvreau got caught in the action and brought the caution on lap 39. Gauvreau was running in top 5 and was second in the series point’s race behind Stefanski. On the restart, Stefanski was still in the lead with Ladouceur and PJ Peters following him. Stefanski was running the bottom of the speedway with less than 3 laps to go. Ladouceur was on the bumper of the leader but Stefanski was able to resist and wins the 50-lap feature win ahead of Joey Ladouceur, PJ Peters, Dion Oakes and Daniel Leduc rounded out the top 5. Stefanski was the winner of one of the three heats; Alan Peters and Oakes won the others.



Stefanski was pretty happy with his win: `` the track was slippery, the car was good tonight’’ after this win, Stefanski takes a comfortable lead in the series points but he is careful: ``we have to take one race at a time, we a 100-lap event coming up and anything can happen’’.



Joey Ladouceur had the best time in the Pro-Stock time trials with a time of 14.986 seconds with a speed of 60.056mph.



Edelweiss Speedway will be the host of the next event with a special 100-lap feature event next Friday, September 5, 2008 with $1,500 to win and over $7,000 in prize money.



A great field of cars took the green flag in the 15-lap Semi-Pro Feature race as Yves Vandette led the first four laps. On the restart, Michel Desjardins grab the lead and led 1 lap when caution came back on. Desjardins had a good start on the green with Vandette second and Marco Lalonde in third. A few cautions slowed the race but Michel Desjardins managed to stay in front and win the feature race.





Jean-Marc Larose took the early lead in the 12-lap rookie feature race with Bob Ray in second and Eli Gilbert in third. Larose was still the leader at the halfway point with Ray and Gilbert doing battle for second since the beginning of the race. Second place runner, Ray had problems with only 2 laps to go and caution came out. Larose had a great start on the green flag and led the final laps to win the feature over Eli Gilbert and Jesse Thompson. Pierre Robidoux was crowned the 2008 rookie champion.



Another great night of racing at Cornwall as the 2008 track champions were crowned, Carey Terrance in the Modifieds, Joey Ladouceur in the Pro-Stock, Marc Lalonde in the Semi-Pro and Pierre Robidoux in the rookies. Next week is the WWE of racing as it will be the annual enduro race. A very entertaining afternoon is awaiting the fans as the races starts at 2pm.
