RAIN CANCELS FRIDAY EVENING FESTIVITIES AT BIG DIAMOND RACEWAY…By Gary Lileck
Forestville, PA – August 29, 2008 – Area forecasts predicted storms to clear from the area early Friday evening. Unfortunately, those previsions proved to be false and Big Diamond Raceway was forced to cancel Friday night’s card.
The Alpine Building & Post Supply Coalcracker 50 for Sportsman, Penske Shocks Non-Winners Race for 358 Modifieds, and Wingless ARDC Midget show has a tentative make-up date during the weekend of the third annual Diamond Nationals (September 27-28).
Big Diamond Raceway would like to thank all of the fans and teams who endured the weather and attended Friday’s program."I apologize to the teams that traveled the distance to BDR on Friday, we stuck with our philosophy to race if at all possible due to local radar not showing significant precipitation in the area. Unfortunately all the optimism couldn't change Mother Natures mind and we were forced to cancel as the track became saturated by the persistent fine rain." commented track partner Buddy Biever. Rain checks can be used as face value towards Sunday’s Coalcracker event.
Sunday August 31 is the 28th annual Coalcracker 100 for 358 Modifieds. The winning driver will receive $10000 for his efforts in this classic feature contest. The runner-up finisher in Sunday’s prestigious Coalcracker race receives $5000, with $3000 going to the third place finisher, $2000 for fourth, and $1500 for fifth, $300 just to start the 100-lap race. There is a $1000 bonus at the half-way mark. The contest is 100 green flag laps with a fuel stop at lap 50. A minimum of 28 cars will start the feature. The Roadrunners compete in a 20-lap main event.
Spectator gates open at 3:00PM for advance ticket holders, and sales gates swing open at 4:00PM. Racing begins at 6:30PM.
