LABOUR DAY CLASSIC WEEKEND A SUCCESS
Brighton Speedway fans, drivers and staff are marking this past racing weekend , the Labour Day Classic, a definite success. Despite the cancellation, due to rain, of the Trenton Holiday Inn $5.00 Friday Night, the sun was out on Saturday and stayed there during the remaining two day double header race event. Presented by Lucas Oil, Mix 97, Ultramar and ROCK 107 , the racing bonanza included 3 Southern Ontario Sprint Features, the Duel in the Dirt Pro Stock Challenge presented by Lawns We Do and DL Services and the Comp 4 eagle.ca Dirt/Pavement Challenge. Add to these 2 SOS Dash for Cash races, 3 of Brighton’s regular classes, the Tim Horton’s Kid’s Club Carnival, Lawn Tractor Pulls, free camping and a Fireworks Display by Mystical Distributing, and everyone in attendance had something of interest..
Glenn Styres (#0), the Southern Ontario Sprints Oshweken Flyer had an eventful weekend as he took one of the 3 features, and claimed the Season Championship, making him the first ever three time winner in club history. Taking the other 2 feature races was 77x Ryan Hunsinger. The “Joyceville Jet”, local favouirte Rick Wilson (#42w) finished second in all three of the feature races.
Taking second was not good enough for the Big Smooth, #72 Pro Stock Driver Doug Anderson of Trenton. After finishing third in his qualifier, he pulled pole in the feature and never looked back. The Sunday night 50 lap race included 26 cars who represented their home tracks in the Duel in the Dirt , and Mr. Anderson headed into Victory Lane to please the crowd. The highest finishing Comp 4 driver from Brighton Speedway was current points leader Stacey Ferguson (#1) of Picton.
The next race event is Maestro’s Painting Contractor’s presentation of the Leon’s Trenton, School Bus Races. The traditional passenger transport vehicles have been overhauled and will hit the 1/3 mile clay oval in racing form. Four of Brighton’s regular classes, Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds, Bill’s Johns Comp 4, Picture This Pure Stocks and the Quinte Towing Stingers will hit the tight bullring for a night of fantastic family entertainment. Brighton Speedway Pro Stocks will be completing the Duel in The Dirt event at Merritville Speedway. The Green Flag flies at 7pm.
