12th ANNUAL CSONLINE APPLEFEST 100 THIS SUNDAY AT TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FRANKLIN, PA .. The 2008 season will end at Tri-City Speedway with the most exciting race of the year on Sunday, September 7th - The 12th Annual CSOnline Applefest 100.
Considered by many to be the best race each season at the Venango County half-mile oval, the CSOnline Applefest 100 is also the biggest event of the year for the E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks at $2,000-to-win and $125-to-start. In addition, lap sponsors and other awards raise the purse and prize money well in excess of $10,000 making the race one of the richest Pro Stock events in the region.
Past winners of the event read like a who's who of Pro Stock racing. Former track champions Bobby Whitling (2000, 2001 and 2003) and Dave Ferringer (2004 and 2006) are the only multi-time winners of the race. Other winners include Rick Prosser Jr. (1997), Gary Norman (1998), Matt Lux (1999), Darrell Bossard (2002), Jason Reagle (2005), and Steve D'Apolito (2007). Lux and Bossard are now top names in regional Late Model competition while Whitling and D'Apolito compete in the FASTRAK Late Model division. Whitling runs a Pro Stock on occasion at Tri-City, and is expected to contend for an unprecedented fourth win in the CSOnline Applefest 100. Reagle, the 2008 Pro Stock track champion, and Ferringer are also race favorites.
Run four weeks before the annual Applefest celebration in Franklin, the CSOnline Applefest 100 will also determine the champion of Tri-City's five-race William R. Karns Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series, which is a track-based series. Heading into the event, Jason Johns leads the point standings by 42 markers over teenage sensation Jackson Humanic and Reagle. Bobby Sutley and Chris Haines round out the top five in points. Although all five drivers are more than capable of pulling out the win, Johns heads into the race with three consecutive victories, including a clean sweep of the Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series events during the Oil Region Labor Day Classic Weekend.
For the eighth year in a row, CSOnline will sponsor the Applefest 100. A well-known internet service provider in Clarion and Venango Counties, CSOnline offers various computer and internet services for commercial and residential customers throughout the Tri-City area. CSOnline, which is located in Seneca, Pa., sponsors Tri-City's Autograph Alley, which is located outside of turn four and gives fans of all ages the chance to obtain autographs from the weekly feature winners. CSOnline also hosts Tri-City's website, www.tricityspeedway.com.
This year, various sponsors will once again offer additional awards for the leader of each circuit of the 100-lap affair. A total of $1,580 in lap money will be paid out with the leader of each lap to receive a cash award of at least $10. The leader of the 50th lap will receive $300 courtesy of William R. Karns Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning of Franklin, Pa. Jim's Super Market of Cooperstown, Pa., offers $50 for the first and 100th laps. There are other laps paying more than $10 as well.
There are additional prizes available too. This season, time trials will align the heat races, and Adam Holt sponsored the 2008 Fast Time Award in memory of Butch Holt, which will pay the top timer $100. The driver that advances the most positions in the race from his original starting spot will receive the Hard Charger of the Race Award and a $100 prize courtesy of Oil City Automotive. Atkinson Fire Safety Equipment of Rimersburg, Pa., returns with a $100 prize for the 2008 Rookie of the Race Award. The annual heat race winners dash normally offers a $300 purse, and track officials are still in need of a sponsor to post those funds. That event usually determines the polesitter and starting lineup for the big race. Seigworth Road Supply of Knox, Pa., will return to award $50 to the Best Appearing Car of the race.
In an effort to boost the opportunity for all competitors to earn money, any of the drivers that do not qualify for the main event will be eligible to race in the 20-lap Sunoco Race Fuels/R.K. Virgile Scrap Metals Non-Qualifiers B Feature, which was added to the program in 2004. That event pays $500-to-win and $65-to-start. All non-qualified drivers must start that race to earn purse money. Otherwise, $50 tow money is available.
In addition to the Pro Stocks, for the fifth year in a row, the Klapec Auto Body Thundercars will compete in the Apple Core 20. Robby Torrens (2003), Jeff Manners (2004), Craig Koteles (2005), Eric Goldberg (2006) and Cody Manners (2007) are the past winners of that race. So far, the Amateur Street Stocks from Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway have outdueled the Tri-City regulars 3-to-2 with only the Manners father-and-son duo able to uphold the honor of the weekly competitors.
A Lowry Auto Wrecking Applefest Mid-Sized Car Demolition Derby will round out the show. This will be the first full demo derby of the 2008 season.
Gates to the track open for this event at 2 p.m. Time trials start at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 6 p.m. Adult grandstand admission for the twilight event will remain a family friendly $11. In the event of rain, track officials will review the schedule for an appropriate raindate.
