2008 Limaland Title Earned along with the King of the Quarter Mile.

2008 Limaland Title Earned along with the King of the Quarter Mile.

Once the NRA title was in the bag for JR Stewart the focus turned to winning the Limaland Motorsports Park championship along with the King of the Quarter Mile. This past Friday JR along with his crew took care of business being the first person to win all three in the same year.
Friday night at Lima JR entered the night a mere six points ahead of Mike Miller for the track title so running well was kinda important. Having an outside front row start the 6s muscled out into the lead stretching it out with every lap. At the end of the eight laps JR had built up a straightaway lead over second place when the checkered flag flew.
Starting third in the feature the Hammons Motorsports entry was now eight points ahead of Mike Miller so all that was needed was to finish one spot behind the 82 or, ahead of him. Right off the bat JR took to the bottom of the track falling back to fifth in the running order but keeping pace with everyone in front of him. After a few laps the battle was for second between three cars and each position changed several times over the ensuing laps. In the end the final step of the podium was attained earning JR the 2008 Limaland Track Championship.
For the King of the Quarter Mile the 6s started on the pole and stayed right there for the entire duration. Running on the high side of the track and using the wall at times to help the car turn, he led every lap and took home the $3000.
Saturday the team made the trip up north to Michigan to race at Crystal ready to have some fun and not worry about titles or anything else like that, just winning. Inside of the front row gives you a good look at the flag stand and that is exactly where the Hammons Motorsports entry began the heat race. Running the top side of the track JR finished second to fellow Ohio traveler Darren Long.
Being one of the high point earners from the heats JR started in the sixth spot on the grid. Running both the top and bottom of the track at about the half way mark the 6s was in the fourth position when trouble came looking for him. After watching a car nearly take out three others entering the turn JR went to the bottom to avoid any trouble. Half way down the straightaway the car decided that he wanted to now run the bottom clipping the right rear of the car and sending it over. The Hammons Motorsports entry was credited with a 20th place finish.
Bryn Daring, Ron Stewart, Zach Swisher, Craig Rutan, Don Vanderhule, Adam Bergman, Wendy Williams, Patty Stewart, Amy Swisher, Teresa Shear, Jess McMillen, and Denise Davis all need to be thanked for the jobs they do and what they put up with in a season of racing!
