Santa Maria, CA 9-3-08...Bandit Sprint Cars, D&S Automotive IMCA Modifieds, Factory Stocks, and Mini Stocks will all be on track Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway.
*Peter Murphy, of Clovis, has already claimed the Bandit/VRA Grand Slam Challenge championship, is way out in front in the Bandit Series point standings, and needs 94 points to guarantee the SMS Bandit title. Murphy leads Albert Pombo, of Easton, by 63 points in the local championship. Third place Justyne Hamblin, of Hanford, is 83 markers out of the lead after her first career Bandit feature victory August 23. In the Series Murphy leads Rusty Carlile, of Bakersfield, by a whopping 196 points and Pombo by 203.
*Santa Maria's Danny Lauer has a tenuous 13 point advantage over Nipomo's Kenny Kirkpatrick in the fight for the IMCA Modified crown. Third place Josh Vogt and fourth place Doug Thornton, both of Santa Maria, trail by 60 and 66 points respectively. Chad Weber, of Arroyo Grande, is 74 points back in fifth.
*Santa Maria drivers are in the top-four places in the Factory Stock ranks. Kirk Morgan is at the top of the standings as he fights for his second consecutive division championship. Morgan is followed by Michael Frazier (-33), Glen Sparks (-89), and Tim Bennett (-92). Fifth place belongs to Kevin Linson (-95) of Arroyo Grande.
*Mini Stocks are in a close two Justin title chase between defending champ Justin Crockett, of Arroyo Grande, and Justin Marsh, of Nipomo, who is only 16 points behind the leader. The rest of the top-five, Santa Maria's Daylan Coffey (-109), Nipomo's Jeremy Heroux (-117), and Santa Barbara's Ben Caswell (-137) are effectively vying for third place. .
* Spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m., Saturday night, with racing at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices will be $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors (65+), and $5.00 for children six to twelve. Youngsters five and under are admitted free. Credit cards are not accepted.
