HEAVY RAIN, PART OF HURRICANE HANNA, WASHES OUT SATURDAY NIGHT RACING AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 6, 2008 . . . Rain and a forecast for more heavy rain and high winds forced the cancellation of the Tom Oates Chevy of Chester Springs doubleheader of NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models at Grandview Speedway. The Saturday night events were to be the final point races of the season at the one-third-mile, banked clay oval.
“With the rainout we are moving the final point races to Saturday, September 20th,” said promoter Bruce Rogers. “We want to make every effort to give the racers a chance to run the final point race. The battle between point leader Chuck Schutz and challenger Randy Stoudt (just a 56 point difference) will make for some great action on September 20.”
The rescheduled night featuring NASCAR 358 modifieds, late models and SpeedSTRS will be sponsored by Allstate Insurance. The Tom Oates Chevy Night will be rescheduled for a date in 2009. Open competition racing scheduled for September 20th will now take place on September 27th.
Coming up this Saturday, September 13th is the 38th annual BPG Racing Freedom 76 for modified stock cars. The winner will walk off with $20,000 in cash. More than $1,000 in lap money is also up for grabs. Racing will get the green flag at 7 p.m. The Alpine Building and Post Supply Cash Dash will award the winner $1,000.
Earlier in the day, 1:30 p.m., the Beer City Freedom Fest will be presented with fans getting to take part in activities at the dunk tank, a tire changing contest (for youngsters and adults), race car display, autograph session, driver interviews and more. Proceeds from the Beer City Freedom Fest will go to the Camelot Home for Children in Allentown, PA.
Adult admission for the race will run $25, children 6 thru 11 are admitted for $7 and under 6 are FREE.
Racers are reminded that their entries must be received by Grandview Speedway no later than Friday, September 12th in order to qualify for the early entry fee of $85. Those entering on raceday will pay $110. Entry forms can be found at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a lap, $10 per lap, may do so by contacting Ernie Saxton at 215.752.7797 or e-mail Esaxton144@aol.com.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA, just 10 miles north of Pottstown. For race information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at their website, www.grandviewspeedway.com.
