Sarver, PA (September 5, 2008) With the remnants of Hurricanes Gustav and Hannah hanging around and providing a steady, cool breeze, the school buses made their return to the Lernerville Speedway tonight along with the Senior Series, Kid’s Bike Races and the lone Demo Derby of the season. As always, the real winners were the children who got to race on the famed “Action Track” at Lernerville Speedway. Two lucky kids even went home with brand new bikes courtesy of Snyder’s of Berlin.
The bus races were marred by a lot of attrition. The scheduled 20-lap feature was shaping up to be a three bus battle between early leader Bob Clepper in the #83 Cheetah Bus, Bill Clepper in the #99 Terminator and 2008 Advance Auto Parts UMP DIRTcar Street Stock Champion Bob Egley in the #3 Bat Bus! However, as the laps ticked off, the Bat Bus appeared to have engine issues and the Cheetah lost a right front paw on the back straightaway. With just the Terminator and Frank Spithaler’s Cow Patty #008 left on the track, the race was shortened to 15 laps, as the Cow Patty was simply no match for the Diesler-powered Terminator! The win was Clepper’s second win of the season!
The attrition trickled down to the Powder Puff division with just Racin’ Rosie Spithaler in the Cow Patty #008 and Missy Gardina in the Bat Bus #3 taking the green flag. Gardina had the Bat Bus up on three wheels in turns three & four, but blew a huge puff of smoke and came to a stop in turn two, giving Racin’ Rosie the feature win after just two laps in the books, almost certainly the all-time quickest feature win in the 41 year history of Don Martin’s Lernerville Speedway!
Between the two bus features was the 20-lap Senior Series feature. Terry Kroner, driving Ryan Moyer’s #13X, (a car which Moyer purchased from Kroner a few years ago), took the checkered flag with relative ease ahead of John Watson (#78), Rich Baumgartner (#52B) and Ray Keith (#15K). Terry Faas, (in the Kevin Haas #48), was scored fifth after making contact with a lapped car while running second and chasing Kroner. Faas was unable to rejoin the field, and nobody else had anything for Kroner!
Join us next weekend for the Advance Auto Parts Autumn-Motive Fest. The two-day show kicks off Friday Night with Modified Madness featuring the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series versus the Lernerville/BRP Modifieds in the North-South 100. The Small Block Mods and Mod Lites will also be in action. Then Saturday Night is Street Stock Pandemonium and the second Enduro of the season. The Street Stock race is being run under “Open Rules” and will pay $2000 to win! The 100-lap Enduro will follow with $1000 on the line!
As announced briefly on our website, with more details to follow, the 2008 Lernerville schedule has been extended into October with the Y108 Thrillbilly Country Bash featuring Grammy Award Winner LeeAnn Womack, breakout artists The Lost Trailers, the Chris Higbee Project, NOMaD and Sarah Marintz. The Y108 Thrillbilly Country Bash will also feature Monster Trucks, a crowd-pleasing fireworks display by Premier Pyrotechnics and a huge Bonfire to cap off the evening of Family Fun!
