RAHMER WELL AHEAD IN GROVE POINTS -- OTHER POSITIONS CLOSE
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- While Fred Rahmer is well on his way to
clinching an unprecedented eighth Cindy Rowe Auto Glass championship at
Williams Grove Speedway, several other positions in the top ten are very
close and could change on Friday evening, September 12, when the sprint
cars will share the pit area with the 358 c.i. sprints.
The first heat is scheduled to start at 8:00.
Rahmer, who is in line to earn $15,000 for the title, will come
into the September 12 program with a lead of 875 points over defending
track champion Todd Shaffer, but then things get very interesting.
Shaffer holds a slim 40 point edge over Brian Leppo with five point
races remaining.
Leppo, 29, of New Oxford, is enjoying the best season of his career
at Williams Grove with three extra distance victories to his credit.
Fourth-place Greg Hodnett is 140 points behind Leppo, then a close
battle for fifth involves Doug Esh with 4170 and Brian Montieth with 4120.
Esh has been as fast as anyone this season with three wins and nine
top five finishes while Montieth has been a consistent top ten finisher.
Only ten points separate Alan Krimes from Chad Layton. Krimes is
seventh with 3990 and Layton eighth with 3980.
The race for ninth is nearly as close with Cody Darrah leading Mark
Smith 3630-3605.
Following Friday night's program the remaining point races include
September 19 when the super sportsman will be on the card along with the
sprint cars, the Morgan Hughes National Open weekend September 26-27,
and Champion's Night on October 3 featuring sprint cars and 358s.
Some reserved seats still remain for the World of Outlaws
sanctioned National Open presented by Cleveland Brothers.
Credit card orders are accepted at 717.697.5000 during business
