ILES TAKES BRIDGEPORT MODIFIED CROWN WHILE HOWARD WINS TWO FEATURES

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 20, 2008) - Mike Iles from Medford, New Jersey
left Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night basking in the glory of
becoming the 2008 Big Block Modified Champion on RMP Powertrain
Solutions night. Duane Howard walked away with two Big Block Modified
feature wins. In the 358 Sportsman division, Jesse Hill came home the
victor. Bob Burgess was the winner in the GM Sportsman division while
the Outlaw Stock feature was not completed due to time constraints.

Rookie Big Block Modified driver Matt Harrell outgunned fellow front row
starter Scott Ambruster to begin the postponed Big Block Modified 25-Lap
feature from July 19. On lap 2, Ryan Watt, Gary Hager, Mike Iles and
Mike Franz were involved in a tangle at the exit of turn two. When the
green flag waved to resume action, Harrell maintained the lead but tenth
place starter Duane Howard continued his charge to the front by moving
up to second place. On lap 4, Howard scooted past Harrell for the lead.
On the next lap, Richie Pratt Jr. maneuvered around Harrell for the
runner-up spot. A long period of green flag racing was interrupted when
Bob Sarkisian began to slow down on the backstretch on lap 18. With the
field back together for the final restart of the event, Howard outgunned
Pratt and led the remaining laps for his second win of 2008. Pratt Jr.
drove a strong race to finish second. Wade Hendrickson got third place
while Chic Cossaboone captured fourth place. The fast improving Harrell
finished a career best fifth.

Bob Sarkisian quickly darted by Scott Ambruster and Mike Mammana to take
the early advantage in the 30-Lap double point season finale for the Big
Block Modifieds. Steve Durand brought out the first caution with a flat
tire on lap 1. Coming from the tenth starting position, Duane Howard was
able to gain second place by lap 2 in his pursuit of Sarkisian. Wade
Hendrickson’s evening ended when his machine stopped on lap 5. Racing
resumed for only one lap as Mike Franz’s machine cruised to a stop in
turn one. On the restart, Howard shot past Sarkisian for the lead and
Richie Pratt Jr. assumed the runner up spot. Chad James shuffled
Sarkisian back another spot on lap 9 when he gained the third spot.
Brian Truppi’s flat tire slowed the action down on lap 12. Howard chose
the outside lane for the restart and was able to keep his lead over
Pratt Jr., James, and Sarkisian. On lap 13, Mike Iles spun coming out of
turn four while running in the sixth position. Once again, the outside
lane provided Howard the extra edge in keeping the lead over Pratt Jr.
on the restart. On lap 19, Pratt slowed while running in second place
which illuminated the caution lights again. Chad James assumed second
place but could not pass Howard when racing continued. Pratt had
rejoined the field on the resumption of action and began to migrate his
way back to the front when he drew another caution for a right rear flat
tire on lap 23. Still using the outside groove on the restart, Howard
maintained his edge over James. Howard survived another restart on lap
25 to clinch his second win of the evening and his thirty-fifth career
win at Bridgeport Speedway. James finished in second place while Jimmy
Horton took third place. Ryan Watt and Steve Bottcher completed the top
five. By finishing in seventh and sixth respectively in the features,
Iles was able to win his first ever Big Block Modified title over
Bottcher and Pratt Jr. Howard, Pratt Jr., and James won the Big Block
Modified heat races while Ryan Watt took the checkered flag in the
consolation event.

In the 358 Sportsman feature, Tom Miller led the first three laps with
Dan Cogdill taking the lead from Miller on lap 4. Twelfth place starter
Jesse Hill drove by Miller for the second spot on lap 5. On a lap 5
restart, Cogdill and Hill battled side by side for a lap with Hill
eventually gaining the edge. Behind the top two, eighteenth place
starter John Stangle marched into third on lap 8. Running in second
place, Cogdill dropped out of the race on lap 15 which gave Stangle
second place. Hill was able to fend off the challenges on numerous
restarts to win his third feature of the year. John Stangle finished
strongly in second place. Kevin Collins came home in third place after
starting the feature in nineteenth place. Jarrad Miller and Bob Lineman
Jr. rounded out the top five. Stangle, Gino Postorivo and Hill claimed
the 358 heat races and Collins was victorious in the consolation event.

Rookie driver Bob Burgess took the lead on lap 2 from Erik Renninger and
became the ninth different winner in the division by capturing the
15-lap GM Sportsman feature. For Burgess, it was his first career win.
John Micek finished in second place. Travis Hill, Neal Williams and
Chuck Buchman completed the top five. The GM Sportsman heat races were
won by Renninger and Burgess.

Due to time constraints, the Outlaw Stock feature was unable to be
contested. It will be run on September 27 along with the scheduled
double point season finale.
