Chesebro BRP CanAm Winner At Little Valley

Little Valley, NY…Jeff Chesebro evened the score with Steve Dixon and added to his BRP CanAm Late Model Series win record with a popular win at Little Valley Speedway (LVS) on Saturday September 20. Dixon won the Series tour event at LVS opener in May. Chesebro closed the LVS season out with his victory.

Chesebro came out on top of a great duel with Steve Dixon on the wicked fast LVS fairgrounds track. Pole sitter Steve Dixon lead laps one and two. Dixon lost the lead to Chesebro on a lap three drag race restart. Dixon blasted back to the top spot on a lap eight restart. Chesebro found good traction on the bottom of turn four with Dixon up on top busting the berm. When the two warriors raced under starter John Powell office on lap ten Chesebro’s black CRS Monte Carlo had the advantage over Dixon’s red CRS Corvette. The event stayed green for the duration with no change in the top two.

No change in the top two, but behind them was some incredible racing with lots of passing and great side-by-side racing. Glenn Whritenour, a short track specialist (2008 Woodhull Raceway Champion) proved his big track / high speed prowess by coming out on top of an outstanding battle with Todd Hansen and Bruce Miller. Whritenour, Hansen, and Miller completed to top five in that order.

Lots of passing for sure! The box score will show that Bryce Davis started 10th and finished 7th. That is good, but the real story is that the 17 year old high school student went to the pits after a lap one crash and restarted last (26th) to in fact pass 19 cars. Likewise for Larry Knowles who started the event 5th, but was involved in the lap one crash, pitted, and returned to pass 18 cars to finish 8th. Bob Buono and Dave Miller show as officially passing 8 cars. Paul Grigsby made the A-Main via winning one of the two B-Mains. Officer Grigsby passed seven cars in his march from 21st to 14th. Despite all of this, the DART Machinery $100 Hard Charger Award went to Tim Schram who made the A as a provisional starter to start 25th and finished 16th.

The race was red flagged before the first lap when Jon Rivers flipped his Rocket GTO in turn four. As best can be determined Rivers’ car caught a rut or simply bottomed out and was sent into a tight high flip. The car snap rolled once and never touched the ground until it landed on its four wheels. The hard landing stunned Rivers and left him very sore. The incredible story is that with 24 cars all tight behind the front row starting Rivers nobody crashed hard into him. Only a relatively minor tangle ensued between Scooter Pangrazio, Larry Knowles, and Bryce Davis as they worked to avoid the Rivers car. Those three were able to restart.

The 26 car A-Main starters were set from the 40 entries via four heats, two B-Mains, and two provisionals. Heat race winners were Jeff Chesebro, Jeremy Wonderling, Bryce Davis, and Steve Dixon. Quinn Sutherland and Paul Grigsby won the B-Mains. Tim Schram and Neil Patterson were the provisional starters.
