For Immediate Release – SEPT 20th, 2008
Ontario Dirt Late Models Return to Brighton Speedway
This weekend was the return of full-fendered, extreme horse powered, Super Late Models as they converged on the 1/3 mile clay oval for the 2008 Hino Trucks of Kingston(ON) and Gatineau(QC) Justin Turner Memorial Race, presented by Herbert Kerr Construction. Named for the young Brighton Speedway driver who passed away in 2007, fans were entertained by the fast action of the four race series that is headed by Debbie & Charles Brush of Blenheim, ON. Everyone was especially pleased to see racing legend and father of the late Justin, Paul Turner from Picton behind the wheel of the 92c, owned by the series promoter. Paul is known as a former track champion at Brighton Speedway, as well as a multiple winner of the former Can-Am Late Model Challenge Series. Paul willingly came out of retirement to race this special event, and although he did not finish as well as he was hoping, he was awarded the Best Appearing Car in the class by Q-T Motorsports and the Pennells, strong supporters of visitors to the Brighton Track. For the official results of the season ending race visit www.ontariodirtlatemodels.com.
Also racing on Saturday September 20th were the regular FAB 4 Brighton Classes in the Eastern Overhead Doors Super Feature Night, that was delayed from September13th by Mother Nature. With double points on the line every driver in the running for the division championship hit the perfectly conditioned surface with speed on their mind, and a vision of the black and white in their hand.
The vision came to life for Curtis O’Brien #23, of Brighton in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Division and Corey Earl #11, of Ameliasburgh in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks. Taking the checker in the Picture This Pure Stock Feature was the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Month for August, #49 Phil Potts of Brighton. With only 100 points separating the top 4 drivers in the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified Division, official results were unavailable until post race inspections are complete. The complete results for all classes and races will be made available at www.brightonspeedway.com as soon as they are official.
The next race event is the Applefest weekend, September 26th & 27th. The schedule for that weekend has changed slightly due to recent weather conditions, so be sure join us Friday, September 26th as Smylie’s Independent Grocers Presents the Lucas Oil Sportsman Challenge Cup, Dirt track Digest Sportsman All Star Race and the Leon’s of Trenton School Bus Races along with other events including Brighton Speedway’s weekly classes. Gates open at 6 and racing begins at 7:30 pm. Adult Admission is $9, Youth and Senior $7, children 7-12 are $2 and 6 and under are always free or a family pass is $20.
All of this is a prelude to the racing action set for Saturday, September 27nd when Benson Autoparts presents the 2008 running of the 358 Dirt Modified Shootout featuring the ever popular Lucas Oil CLASH for CASH for 358 Modifieds plus the Canadian American IMCA / Canadian Modified Challenge, and final races for regular Brighton classes.
