DIAMOND NATIONALS KICK OFF THIS WEEKEND; PRE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UP TO FRIDAY…By Gary Lileck

Forestville, PA – September 21, 2008 – The month of September is quickly drawing to a close, which means the Landis C. Deck Diamond Nationals are just around the corner. As a matter of fact, the third annual event is slated for Saturday September 27 and Sunday September 28.

Big Block Modified, Small Block Modified, and Roadrunner competitors are encouraged to pre-register for this event. The registration fee is $25 if received by this Friday Sept. 26. Race-day registration is $50. The speedway office line has been literally ringing off the hook with phone calls of great interest for this program.

The festivities begin on Saturday Sept. 27, as the mighty Big Block Modifieds return for their second appearance of 2008. Duane Howard of Oley PA won the previously held Big Block show back on March 29 with his Chad Sinon owned #4. Saturday’s event is a 50-lap feature paying $5000 to win.

Howard will find a talented field of challengers in the pit area this Saturday including BDR rivals: ’08 champion Jeff Strunk, Ryan Watt, Gary Hager, Craig Von Dohren, and many more. The stars from neighboring New Jersey are hoping to invade PA victoriously. Billy Pauch Sr. is expected to steer the Will Brown #1W, popular racing veteran Chic Cossaboone will drive the TTF Motorsports #7A entry, and Martinsville NJ’s John Salvatore Jr. plans to compete with the #10s.

The rain rescheduled Coalcracker 50 for Sportsman ($50 Coalcracker Registration Required) takes place on Saturday. Defending race winner Jordan Umbenhauer is expected to defend his title. The list of BDR combatants includes ’08 track champion Brad Brightbill, five time feature winner Earl Paules, Billy Moyer Jr., Josh Biever, ’07 champion, Craig Whitmoyer, Mike Loney, Kyle Weiss, Kevin Beach, Chris James Jr., Daryl Dissinger, and many others.

The Sportsman Coalcracker historically brings a wide selection of competitors from various home tracks. New Egypt (NJ) Speedway’s Gary Butler, John McClelland, Ray Woodall Jr., Clay Butler, and Rich Scagliotta each have victory bound hopes in mind. John Scarborough of Bomoseen VT plans to make the six hour drive to BDR for this event as well.

The Wingless ARDC Midgets are competing on Saturday for their third visit of the season. Randy Monroe Jr. and Ryan Smith were each winners in previous ’08 Diamond shows.

The 358 Small Blocks will battle on Sunday September 28 in a Hagerstown (MD) style open competition feature, a 50-lap main event paying $5000 to win. The above mentioned Howard, Watt, Pauch Sr. (in the RKG Enterprises machine), Hager, Strunk, and Cossaboone are expected to appear along with many others.

The top 25 Sportsman from Saturday are competing in a 40-lap main event, which pays $1200 to win.

The Roadrunners complete the show with a 25-lap Open Competition (Headers and 4 Barrell Carbs) feature paying $750 to win. Selinsgrove Speedway regulars Eric Pinkerton and Mike Kiehl recently took part in a test and tune to prepare for this show. ’08 co-champions Kevin Olenick and Joe Hendricks will lead a strong contingent of cars to the huge 25-lap feature.

Saturday and Sunday costs are $20 to the stands and $30 for the pits each day. On Saturday, gates open at 2:30PM with hot laps slated for 5:30PM. Gates will open at 2:00PM on Sunday with a tentative start time of 5:00PM.

For rules or questions, competitors may call the speedway office at 570-385-0744 or check the track’s official website at www.bigdiamondraceway.com . For race day info, the track hotline is 570-544-1410.
