Jason Goodling Wins Demo Derby at SSP’s Smashfest ’08 on Saturday Night; $5,000-to-Win Next Year’s Small Car Demo Derby
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (September 20, 2008) – On Saturday, September 20, the Susquehanna Speedway Park hosted the 10th Annual Newberry Community Fair and Smashfest ’08. Jason Goodling of York Haven took home $500 after wining the Small Car Demolition Derby. In an action packed night of car crunching stunts by Rick the Idiot and a school bus demo derby and bus roll over, fan were treated to non stop action. A giant fireworks display brought the show to a conclusion.
In Quarter Midget and go kart action on the 1/8 mile track on the frontstretch of the big speedway, Austin Deibler, Katie Dorsey, Darrin Schott, John Brown, Garrett Updike and Chase Donnelly were all victorious in their groups.
Scott Perry, the area’s PA House of Representative, also took part in the festivities as he “stole” Rick the Idiot’s stunt car before the event. In a wild car chase on the speedway, the Newberry Township Police finally “captured” Perry so that the show could go on. After opening remarks from Perry, the show began after the playing of the National Anthem.
In two special announcements, Todd Fisher, owner of SSP, announced that for the 5th annual Smashfest next year on Saturday, September 26, 2009, the small car demo derby will pay $5,000 to win winner. The entry forms and rules will be release by November 1. It was also announced that quarter midget and kart racing at the “Outback” track will be on Friday nights next season.
At the fair during the day there was be plenty of fun for the entire family with food vendors, tractor hay rides, fire company displays, exotic petting zoo featuring Bob’s Critters, presentations, crafts and more.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
