ON FRIDAY
By Mike Leone
September 24, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
East Smethport, PA
The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series
will head to McKean County Raceway this Friday, September 26 for the
third time this season, which will be the Touring finale for the
sophomore Series. Race #11 is scheduled to take the green at 7:30
p.m. The rain date is Saturday at 5 p.m.
The 25-lap featuring will pay $1,200 to-win, $150 to-start. Last
year's event was won by Todd Andrews and earlier this year current
point leader Max Blair and Kyle Drum captured victories. McKean will
also host a $750 to-win FASTRAK event on Saturday. The events will be
the final tune-up before Night 1 of the $250,000 FASTRAK Grand
Nationals for the Northeast Region on Saturday, October 4 at Mercer
Raceway Park.
"Hopefully the weather will cooperate this weekend," stated Northeast
Co-Director and Mercer Raceway Park owner Vicki Emig. "Our event on
the 13th at Mercer was the first Touring Series event we've lost this
year. Hopefully McKean can get their events in this weekend so
everyone can focus on the Night 1 of the Grand Nationals at Mercer
before heading to North Carolina and Virginia in a few weeks."
Thus far Max Blair is the only repeat winner on the Touring Series.
The Centerville, Pa. 18-year-old opened the 2008 Touring Series with
a victory on May 24 at McKean and backed that up with his second
$1,200 victory on August 24 at Eriez Speedway after getting by Tom
Snyder, Jr. on lap 21. Along with Blair and Drum, the following
drivers have also been victorious: Frank Guidace (Mercer), Alan
Dellinger (Dog Hollow), John Lacki (Raceway 7), Bobby Powell (Expo),
Mike Pegher, Jr. (Raceway 7), Carl McKinney (Tri-City), Dick Barton
(Dog Hollow).
Blair's lead is 19 over Barton heading into Friday and continues to
lead the National Weekly Series points by five over Powell. If Blair
can finish 19th or better Friday he'll win the $5,000 title no matter
what Barton does.
