URC ROOKIE BATTLE WILL GO DOWN TO THE WIRE IN 2008
Thirteen rookie drivers are on the Rislone URC Sprint Series driver
roster for 2008 and the battle for the bragging rights for Rookie of the
Year will go right down to the wire. The measures to earn the Rookie of
the Year title are based on ranking in the points, point average per
race, on track race performance and general overall conduct on how the
driver, owner and crew work as a team as well as pit side conduct.
Of the thirteen candidates in the running for the Rookie of the Year
title, four drivers did a break-away from the rest of the pack. Brett
Schoenly (13th in points), Chuck Palmucci (15th in points), Rory Janney
(16th in points) and David Gravel (20th in points) are the leading
candidates. In their rookie year, Palmucci and Gravel have found their
way to victory lane, both delivering very impressive runs.
On the other hand, Brett Schoenly has not won a feature as yet, but is
ranked 13th in points, following a pair of back-to-back six place
finishes at Orange County and last Saturday night at Delaware
International. Schoenly also has the highest point average per race.
Schoenly of Emmaus, PA is enjoying a very impressive rookie year with
URC.
Rory Janney of Estell Manor, NJ just keeps rolling right along as well.
Janney has delivered some solid runs and his on track performance is
highly regarded by his fellow competitors.
David Gravel makes the haul each week from Watertown, CT. Gravel got a
late start, missing the first five events of the season and has one
feature win. Gravel is just seventeen years old and offers a promising
future in URC.
It's a tight battle with three events still remaining!
