FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Applefest Shootout a SUCCESS!!

Although Mother Nature threatened the racing action, and the laps were shortened to accommodate her, the sound of 358 Dirt Modifieds once again came to life at Brighton Speedway for the Benson AutoParts Applefest 358 Dirt Modified Shootout Presented by ImageFactor.ca and the Lucas Oil Clash for Cash on Saturday, Sept 27th, 2008. Pete “Mr. Smallblock” Bicknell of Merritville, ON took home the hardware for both of the main events. Not only did he take the feature , but the battle of east versus west, the best drivers from the Lucas Oil Canadian Series took on the best of the Lucas Oil Shootout Series for the $5,000 purse. Bicknell proved once again that he loves the 1/3mile clay of Brighton and will continue to come back to the tight bullring for the annual Applefest Full weekend of racing.

Also celebrating this weekend were the Sportsman DIRT Modifieds who visited the track on Friday September 26th for the Smylie’s Independent Grocers Presentation of the Lucas Oil Challenge Cup and the Dirt Track Digest All Star Race. More than 30 DIRT Modifieds came together under dark skies to entertain a solid crowd that were also entertained by the Trenton Leon’s School Bus Races, and four of Brighton Speedway’s Regular Classes.

Brighton’s classes were the highlight of the weekend as the season came to a close for the Fab 4 and the Quinte Towing Stingers. Mike Freeman, #51 of Brighton, was a flag waver, as was Chris Sparks #6 of Trenton. The Brighton Automotive Pro Stock race was fast, dirt flying action that saw Doug Anderson #72 of Trenton take the Feature flag and finish second in the class. Taking his second win in as many weeks was the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week Curtis O’Brien in the #23 Bill’s Johns Comp 4. Bouncing back from technical difficulties last week the #07 Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified, driven by Jeff Sallans, took the big pay for the Canadian Modified IMCA Challenge, (which counted as the last points race of the season), and following a repeat post race inspection, hung the plaque on his wall. The #49 Picture This Pure Stock, driven by Phil Potts of Brighton took the division championship even though he finished fifth in the Friday races that saw Bob Greene #26 of Brighton take his first win of the year.

The winning isn’t over as drivers and crews prepare for the Banquet celebration being held January 10th at the Holiday Inn, Trenton. Tickets are available from the Speedway Office which is busy this week preparing for the Hotch’s Auto Parts Monster Enduro event ,(which includes a Junior Race, a Ladies only race, a 20 lap backward race, 75 lap 4 cylinder race and a 175 lap 6 & 8 cylinder race) being held starting at 3pm on Saturday October 4th. All of the details are available at www.brightonspeedway.com.
