MOTHER NATURE CANCELS SATURDAY’S PORTION OF THE DIAMOND NATIONALS, COALCRACKER 50 TO RUN SUNDAY…By Gary Lileck
Forestville, PA – September 27, 2008 – Rain showers moved into the area Friday and continued to haunt the confines of Big Diamond Raceway. Therefore, BDR officials were forced to cancel Saturday’s portion of the Landis C. Deck Diamond Nationals.
"The weather that is forecast for today we believe would have had it's good moments, but for teams and fans to travel and then run the program in between cloud bursts would have made it for a long damp evening." commented BDR's Buddy Biever.
The third annual Diamond Nationals will become a one-day affair (the same occurrence took place in 2006 due to Mother Nature). Please note the special starting times for Sunday September 28. Gates open at 12:30PM with hot laps slated for 3:00PM.
After suffering a pair of rain-outs, the Coalcracker 50 for Sportsman ($2000 to win) will be contested on Sunday. The open comp 358 Small Block Modifieds battle in a 50-lap main event paying $5000 to the winning competitor. The Roadrunners have a huge show as they compete in a 25-lap feature, with a winning check of $750. The Roadrunner event is open competition, headers and 4 barrel carbs.
At the present time, there is no rain date for ARDC Midgets and Big Block Modifieds. If their schedule allows, a date in 2009 might be chosen.
Sunday costs are $20 to the stands and $30 for the pits each day.
