UPPER COURT STREET SUBWAY TO SPONSOR STAR SERIES FINALE AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 11TH
Kirkwood, NY … The racing season is winding down at the Five Mile Point Speedway. On Saturday night October 11th another big night of racing is being presented at the 58 year old historic quarter mile dirt track racing facility.
The Upper Court Street Subway is sponsoring the racing program on this evening. On the racing schedule is a 50 lap Southern Tier Auto Racing ( STAR ) Series finale for Modifieds, a 40 lap Race of Champions Dart Dirt Pure Stock Tour event, and a 25 lap Lightning Cat Open. Each feature race winner will be receiving courtesy of the Upper Court Street Subway a giant 3 foot Subway sandwich.
The Upper Court Street Subway will also on this evening be handing out coupons to be used at the store and 1 lucky race fan in attendance will receive a giant 3 foot Subway sandwich. The Upper Court Street Subway is the official catering partner of the Five Mile Point Speedway as Subway provides the sandwich platters that are served in the VIP Towers each race night. The Upper Court Street Subway located at 721 Upper Court Street is located one mile from the gates of the speedway and they are open from 8 in the morning to 11 in the evening. Joining the Upper Court Street Subway on this night in the VIP Tower will be front office representatives of the Binghamton Senators Hockey Team. The B – Sens will have a display set up on the midway throughout the evening and the B – Sens mascot, Max will be on hand to meet the kids. B – Sens 2008 – 09 team schedules will be available along with information on season ticket packages, coupon books, and 3, 5, 10 and 20 game packs for the upcoming season for the American Hockey League affiliate of the Ottawa Senators. The B – Sens open the home season on Friday night October 17th and this night would be a great opportunity to get ready for the upcoming season. On the track the final race in the STAR Series sees a five driver battle to determine the 2008 STAR Series champion. Currently Mike Colsten is leading the points followed by Five Mile Point Speedway 2008 track champion Brian Weaver. Craig Terrell, Penn – Can Speedway 2008 track champion Jeff Rudalavage, and JR Crouse are in positions three, four, and five respectively and all three have a shot at the title.
The next to last race of the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Pure Stock Tour is taking place on this night. The point race is real close as Charlie Gilbert currently has a slim two point lead over Butch Green with Earl Zimmer just one point behind Green. Rich Green, twin brother of Butch sits in fourth with Norm Whittemore currently in fifth. With many tracks closing their gates after completing their 2008 racing season a large field of entrants is expected for this 40 lap affair.
The Lightning Cat four cylinder division will do battle in a 25 lap feature. Five Mile Point track champion Gary Kinnie will be on hand trying to defend his turf from the likes of the “ Kirkwood Comet “ Cody Decker, David Q. Simms, Jeff Hayes, Andy Brigham, and a host of other top four cylinder racing talent from the area that will be on hand for this race.
The action on Saturday October 11th gets underway at 3 in the afternoon with pit gates opening and grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are slated to begin at 4:45 with racing to start promptly at 6 p.m.
