Bryan Howland Looks for “Triple Crown” During Super DIRT Week XXXVII

Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (October 6, 2008)- In most instances, if things go well for Bryan Howland Friday at Cayuga County, they would need to rent a moving van to get all of his hardware home. Luckily for him, he could practically walk back home to Auburn if things go right in front of the hometown crowd.

Howland, 21, of Auburn, NY, has a very real possibility at capturing the “Triple Crown of the ASCS Patriots” this Friday Night at the season finale at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in front of a slew of friends and family. Such a feat would include the overall championship, the King of CNY and the hard charger of the season. If he could accomplish all of those tasks, it would mark the second year in a row where a driver winning his second title captured a sweep of the ASCS Patriots’ most coveted titles.

Last season, Chuck Hebing was sure of the overall championship heading into the final night, but the other two portions were in serious doubt. As it would turn out, he would have all three pieces of the puzzle. Howland is hoping this year it is his turn.

Bryan only needs to start the A-Main Friday to lock up his second ASCS Patriot Championship. This will be easier said than done though as the prospects of potentially the toughest field is being assembled for a full point Patriot race ever.

The second task will be to lock up the A-Verdi Storage Containers King of CNY Series Crown. If he makes the feature, Howland will need to finish within 14 spots of defending King of CNY Chuck Hebing to lock up this point battle.

The final challenge, the Bear Paw Hard Charger of the Season will undoubtedly be the toughest as he currently trails Scott Kreutter by a single point. This title will be decided partly on luck as his starting positions throughout the night will maximize or limit his ability to score hard charger points. Howland has shown time and time again at CCFS that he can move his car forward, and will need to do it again Friday to get the Triple Crown.

The fourth winningest driver in ASCS Patriot History, Howland has a pair of wins this season, coming in succession back in July at Ohsweken and Brewerton. His most recent run was also solid, as he finished in third at the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals Finale.

A-Verdi Storage Container King of CNY Champion to be Crowned on Friday

Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (October 6, 2008)- The second year of the A-Verdi Storage Containers King of Central New York Series once again comes down to the final race of the year, and once again the point leader of the ASCS Patriots finds himself at the top of the list.

After four events, Bryan Howland, of Auburn, NY leads these unique standings by just 30 points over 2007 King of CNY Chuck Hebing. On a normal event, 30 points might be tough to overcome, but this Friday at Cayuga County will be anything but a standard event.

Just down the road from A-Verdi’s Headquarters in Savannah, NY, Cayuga County Fair Speedway is the ideal location to reward the second champion of this Central New York Series.

A total of 51 different drivers have run one of the four King of CNY events in 2008, a number that could rise exponentially on Friday Night. Twelve drivers have had perfect attendance and will be the set of competitors that will battle for the top-10 spot in the standings, which will guarantee them point fund money.

Even with Howland 30 points ahead of Hebing, two other drivers, Bobby Breen and Jared Zimbardi, also have a chance to claim the crown. Breen trails by 42 markers, which can be made up even if Bryan Howland made the feature. Zimbardi is 65 points back and would need Howland to fail to qualify for the A-Main.

In most series, a point leader qualifying for a race might be a guarantee, but under ASCS rules, no provisional will be given. A large field is expected for Friday, made up of some of the best drivers in the Northeast, so making the field is far from a sure thing. Howland has found himself in B-Mains in the past at CCFS, so a quality run in his heat will be needed.

Blake Breen leads a group of drivers who can not realistically win the King of CNY title, but are submerged in a battle to pick up as much point fund money as possible. The older Breen Brother is just ahead of Doug Emery and Mike Stelter for fifth in the standings, with Chris Muhleisen and Scott Kreutter eighth and ninth, respectively.

The 10th and final point fund position will be up for grabs as Jared Fink, who currently covets that spot, is unexpected to be in attendance after destroying his primary mount at the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals. That will open up the door for Dave Wickham, Bubba Broderick, Tommy Wickham and Don Adamczyk to vie for that final seat at the Awards Banquet.

At least $3,000 will be in the point fund at the end of the year for those in the Top-10. That does not even include the point fund established by Walton’s Farm and Auto Repair for the Hard Charger of Central New York, tabulating point for drivers that pass car only in the King of CNY Races.

Inaugural Walton’s Farm and Auto Repair King of CNY Hard Charger of Season Comes to Conclusion at Cayuga County

Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (October 6, 2008)- The highly popular and successful A-Verdi King of CNY Series had an extra bonus added this year to those that helped to make those events even more exciting as they would charge through the pack. Those drivers will be among those being rewarded Friday Night at Cayuga County.

Walton’s Farm and Auto Repair, of Sauquoit, NY, will reward the driver with the most positions advanced in King of CNY A-Mains from this year as the first King of Central New York Hard Charger of the Season.

Cayuga County will serve as the fourth A-Main of the year in the King of CNY series, with the events from Fulton falling to rain. While a number of the competitors on Friday have yet to even advance a spot in a 2008 King of CNY race, they still could mathematically win the championship.

Of the 51 drivers to compete in at least one A-Verdi King of CNY race this season, only 25 have finished higher than where they started in one of the three A-Mains. With such a limited schedule, every position advanced has been crucial.

Rick Wilson, of Joyceville, Ontario, leads the standings, despite missing the first King of CNY A-Main of the year. Wilson was the hard charger at CCFS in July and if he were to repeat this Friday, he would assure himself the title.

With “The Joyceville Jet” accumulating 21 points, the ability for any competitor to surpass him is still possible with 24 cars starting Friday’s 25-lap A-Main. Outside of such a improbable outcome, there are a number of drivers in a much better position to take top honor.

Bobby Breen has had a solid 2008, especially near his home in Savannah, NY. The 19-year-old sits second in the current standings, only 6 points behind Wilson.

Chuck Hebing, the 2007 ASCS Patriot Hard Charger, is again in the running with 13 advanced positions so far this year.

The Connecticut duo of Bubba Broderick and Doug Norrie round out the current top-five with 12 spots advanced each.

Hard Charger points are tabulated only in the A-Main for drivers that finish higher than where they started the event. Only positive points are given and the maximum points attainable Friday will be 23.

Walton’s Farm and Auto Repair has long been a supporter of dirt track racing in Central New York. Along with sponsoring the ASCS Patriots, they are also a major sponsor on Jason Barney’s No. 87, which was runner-up in the inaugural A-Verdi King of CNY tour last year and will likely be a contender for the lion’s share of the now $3,500 point fund established already for this year.

Young Guns Vie for Hard Charger of 2008 Title at Cayuga County

Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (October 6, 2008)- If that statement that young sprint car drivers are some of the best competitors to watch isn’t convincing enoguh, the Bear Paw Hard Charger of the Season Standings presented by Gater Racing News are the statistics to back up such a claim.

Scott Kreutter, 22, of Alden, NY, is a top the fourth annual hard charger standings with just a single race remaining. The defending Patriot Rookie of the Year leads Bryan Howland, Bubba Broderick and Bobby Breen, none of whom are older than 21. Together, the foursome has already claimed three rookie of the year titles, with Broderick on the verge of the 2008 Rookie of the Year.

Kreutter catapulted to the top of the list after the most recent ASCS Patriot event held at the Sharon Speedway. After picking up the KSE Hard Charger on Saturday Night, the No. 52 was again on a charge to the front on Sunday, passing nine cars and helping to put him in the top spot heading into the season finale at Cayuga County this Friday.

Despite finishing second at CCFS in July, the sophomore sensation will have his work cut out for him this time around as he will be in a Schnee Chassis for the first time after destroying his primary mount at the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.

Bryan Howland is in prime position to strike, just a single point behind Kreutter. While the 2008 Overall Title may be in solid grasps, the Auburn, NY hot shoe has plenty of work to do to score this title for the first time.

Bubba Broderick has been very un-rookie like this season, moving forward in almost every feature, proving that he is a quick study. The 18-year-old from Brookfield, CT sits eight points behind Kreutter and will need to at least equal the charge forward he had at CCFS back in July.

Bobby Breen rounds out the top four with 33 points. The youngster picked up a majority of his passing points at Ohsweken in July but was also able to move up seven spots at CCFS on July 27.

While the youngsters command the top-four spots, the veterans of Scott Bonnell and Chuck Hebing, along with 21-year-old Jared Zimbardi are also within striking distance to become the hard charger. Bonnell will have a tall order ahead of him, as this Friday will be his first time laying eyes on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds. Of the top-seven, only Hebing and Zimbardi are past Hard Chargers of the Season.

At the end of the year, a point fund will be distributed to the top-three in total hard charger points. Hard charger points are given out to competitors that move up from their starting spot from the beginning of the feature to the completion.
