AWARDS BANQUET SET TO CLOSE OUT 2008 UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY ON NOVEMBER 8 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE VERNON , NY- On Saturday November 8, the Utica-Rome Speedway will host its final event of the 2008 season, and instead of being held at the familiar Vernon oval, this event will take place just minutes down the road at the beautiful Turning Stone Casino and Resort. Festivities are set to begin at 6 p.m. The top ten in the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks will be recognized for their efforts throughout the season along with special awards in each division after the Appalachian Buffet which begins at 7 p.m. In the 358-Modifieds, Pat Ward will collect his $8,000 check20for his fantastic season at the Utica-Rome Speedway. Ward had eight wins en route to his first career championship at the “Action Track of the East.” Other 358-Modified drivers getting honored will be two-time champion Willy Decker, 2008 New Yorker 200 champion Bobby Varin, defending champion Stewart Friesen, former champion Mitch Gibbs, Paul Kinney, Jamie Christian, Jim Davis, Ted Lamb, and Paul Jensen. Four time winner Brad Alger will be honored for his first ever Sportsman championship at the Vernon oval, as he held off the late season efforts of runner up Matt Janczuk for the title. Along with Alger and Janczuk, the rest of the top ten to be recognized include Jeremy Vunk, Jason Rood, Steve Way , Jeff Leslie, Tim Nye, Jim Rothwell, Mike Button, and Jack Miller. The Pro Stocks saw Jim Normoyle net his first ever Utica-Rome title on the streng th of three wins and frequent top five finishes. Other Pro Stock drivers to put in the spotlight on this evening for their efforts include Rob Seavy, Tom Denton, Bret Belden, Bill Knapp, Shawn Frost, Mark Effner, Ed Ostrander, AJ Digsby, and Dave Moyer. Despite having only two wins to Russ Marsden’s seven, Chris Carr was able to garner enough points to break Marsden’s four year streak as Pure Stock champion, his first ever championship. Following Carr and Marsden in the standings and getting a chance to walk across the stage to collect their trophy and point money include Ron Hawker, Phil Norman, Tim Janczuk, Frank Hyatt, Chris Cunningham, Waylan Wilczek, Cale Hoffman, and Bill Mason. Tire money will also be distributed during the evening, and anyone who is due money from tire purchases must be be present at the banquet to collect it. This event is open to anyone who wishes to attend and tickets must be purchased by October 31.
