Empire Super Sprint Stars Ready for the Sprint Challenge at Rolling Wheels this Saturday.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - This coming Saturday night, the stars and cars from the Lucas Oil
Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will be ready to take on the very best of the United
Racing Company (URC). It's the annual Sprint Challenge at the Rolling Wheels Raceway
Park this Saturday night as a part of Super DIRT Week. The annual stop for the
winged machines has become a tradition for DIRTcar's week of speed held at the New
York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y.
The half-mile known as the "Fast Track" is located a mere 15 minutes west of the
Fairgrounds and more than 60 of the best 360 sprint car drivers in the Northeast
and Canada will be on hand in hopes of getting the $3,000 top prize for the 25 lap
A-Main. The event is sanctioned by URC with an open invitation to all ESS teams
as well as joint effort by ESS and URC officials..
Heading the brigade from the ESS banner will be now two-time champion Steve
Poirier and the Quebec star has some unfinished business. Last year he was going
for the win when he had to spin to avoid a spun lapped car with one lap to go.
Another two-time champion Lance Yonge will be on hand along with '06 champ Alain
Bergeron, Michael Parent, Jeff Cook, Brian McDonald, Tim Kelly, Tommy Wickham, Lee
Ladouceur, Bubby Kerrick, Anthony Cain, Mike Stelter, Justin Barger, Cory Sparks,
Chuck Hebing, who won the last two events and Jessica Zemken.
From the URC side, multi-time and newly crowned champion Curt Michael will lead
the popular sanction from the NJ/Pa/ and Del. areas. He will be joined by Dave
Ely, JJ Grasso, Chris Coyle, Ed Aikin, Robbie Stillwaggon, Becca Anderson, Kramer
Williamson, former ESS star Jeff VanDusen in Guy Howie's #19H, Davey Sammons and
more.
Adding to the likes of Kenny Adams, Trevor Lewis, Jason Barney, Josh Weller,
Bryan Howland, Jared Zimbardi, the Breen Bros. Blake and Bobby, father/son Rick
and Kyle Wilson, Glenn Styres as well as many more will make this a must see
event. Fans and competitors should note that there will be a Sunday rain date in
effect.
Along with the $3,000 on top, it's $1,600 for second, $1,100 for third on down to
$400 for tenth and $250 to take the green. The event is an open draw format with
$100 for all non-qualified cars. Fans will see some six heats, three B-Mains to
go with the 25 lap finale. New for 2008 will be an added attraction of the
Capital Region Sprint Car Agency sprinters where many future ESS stars could very
well come from the exciting 305 sprint car group.
Pit Gates open at 3PM with racing to begin at 7PM sharp. It's a sprint car and
ESS tradition since 1994, the sprint challenge at Rolling Wheels and it will be
excitement guaranteed!
