Track Champions Enter ISKY Late Model Special at SDW
St. Catharines, ONT… Champions from all of the tracks that participated in the BRP CanAm Series home track bonus program for 2008 have entered the ISKY Cams Late Model Special at Super DIRT Week.
Steve Dixon is very much in the BRP CanAm Series news with his big red CRS Corvette. Dixon is the 2008 McKean County Raceway track champion. Dixon has had a break-out year with two tour event wins and weekly event wins at both MCR and Little Valley. On Saturday Dixon will be racing for the win and the accompanying $2500, but what he wants even more is the 2008 BRP CanAm Late Model Series Championship. He currently trails Jeff Chesebro by a mere 5 points. Five points is the difference between first and second in Saturday’s ISKY race at SDW.
Dave Dubois, the 2008 Black Rock Speedway late model champion, has entered his Sunnyside Suzuki sponsored Shaw Monte Carlo in the $2500 to win ISKY Cams event. The last time Dubois’ #012 was in the Syracuse area was last November at the National Parts Peddler Trade Show. Then the car was pristine new, but untested. When Dubois hits the track on Saturday night the car will be not nearly as pristine, but very well tested. Dubois earned his first and only BRP CanAm Series tour A-Main win at Black Rock in June. The Corfu, NY driver hopes to add to his win total Saturday night.
Bruce Miller will represent Little Valley Speedway in the ISKY race at CCFS. Miller’s 2008 LVS Championship is the first championship that he has ever earned. That may come as a surprise for anyone who has seen this second generation race car driver compete. He is almost always very fast, but consistency has been his nemesis. Miller’s most recent of three BRP CanAm A-Main tour victories was at Merrittville in 2005. He hopes to change that on Saturday night.
Glenn Whritenour has burst onto the scene in 2008 with outstanding results. The Jasper, NY driver has been a strong late model competitor at Woodhull Raceway for several years, but he traveled little outside the high banks of his home track. When he won the BRP CanAm Series race at Woodhull in 2007 it was considered simply home track advantage and a good draw. When runner-up Randy Hall said “I just could not get around the kid in the #15” we all should have all paid more attention. This year he got everyone’s attention! Whritenour showed up for the 2008 Series opener at Merrittville and finished 10th. Merrittville is no Woodhull and Whritenour had never seen the joint before. The competitors and the rail birds noticed. The next Series outing was Little Valley where Whritenour finished sixth. The very next night the Tour competed at Woodhull Raceway where Whritenour won. The message was finally received this Whritenour guy was for real. Whritenour would like to send another message with a win in the ISKY race on Saturday night.
Join Dixon, Dubois, Miller, Whritenour and about 40 others at 7:30 on Saturday October 11 at Cayuga County Fair Speedway for the ISKY Cams Late Model Special at Super DIRT Week.
