358 MODIFIEDS HEADLINE SATURDAY EASTERN STATES RACING



MIDDLETOWN, NY (October 12)……..The small-block Modifieds, powered by 358-cubic inch engines, will be the Saturday, October 18 headline attraction during the 47th Annual Eastern States Weekend at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York. This year’s 32st Annual 358 Modified Championship race will be 100 laps in distance, and will be the final race in the chase for the overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series championship.



A star-studded lineup of top 358 Modified drivers from the entire DIRTcar circuit, plus several DIRTcar big-block Modified drivers, and almost the entire corps of Orange County ’s weekly competitors will be out to capture the trophy and top prize money in this prestigious event.



Since its inception in 1977, the 358 Modified race has had several different formats, having been run at 50-, 75-, 100-, and 150-laps distances. The field for this year’s 100-lap race will be set through Friday, October 17 time trials and heat races, with the final starters coming from consolation races run prior to the main event on Saturday.



Brett Hearn, Orange County ’s all-time race winner and eight time 358 Modified point champion won the 2007 race, his tenth in the October classic. He’ll be challenged by 2005 victor Jerry Higbie and 2006 winner invading driver Billy Decker. O the r previous race winners likely to file entries include five-time winner Danny Johnson, three-time winner Ken Tremont, and 2003 victor Alan Johnson.



Saturday’s card is one of the busiest in all auto racing. In addition to the 358 Modified Championship 100 race, the re’s also big-block Modified practice and qualifying heat races, and the n Saturday evening a complete program of DIRTcar Sportsman racing, including time trials, qualifying heat and consolation races, and the 50-lap Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series Championship. In addition, the annual Pure Stock championship will also be run.
