Jerry Higbie Doing Double Duty At Eastern States Weekend.
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media 2008 Orange County Fair Speedway 358 Modified Champion Jerry Higbie will be in action for both of the headline division events this coming weekend when the Orange County Fair Speedway swings open it's gates for the 47th running of the annual Eastern States Weekend. Higbie will loom as one of the favorities in both events as all of the top 358 Modified and Big Block Modified drivers from all over the Northeast will assemble at the Middletown facility in hopes of grabbing the big bucks posted by the WRG Promotion team. Higbie is coming off a stellar season in racing as he captured the 358 Modified crown at Orange County for the third time in his driving career. His other crowns were won in 2004 and 2005. Higbie also placed third in the Big Block Modified points at Orange County in what has to be considered as one of the most competitive fields of talent assembled for the weekly battles. Higbie also enjoyed a tremendous amount of success with his weekly jaunts to Gary Palmer's quarter-mile playground, the Accord Speedway. After a horrible start at Accord early on, Higbie rebounded quickly and enjoyed great runs at the speedway. His Accord season was highlighted by his winning of the prestigious Joe Winne Memorial race at mid-season. Even though the Winne race was his only win at Accord, Higbie's rim riding all out style of driving became a fan favorite for the popular Slate Hill, New York driving talent. Higbie completed the Accord season with a strong third place finish in the points just behind new track champion Andy Bachetti and runnerup and 10-time champion Rich Ricci Jr. The Jerry Higbie Racing Teams will be focused and ready for the Eastern States Weekend of Events that hits Middletown, New York on October 17th through 19th. Higbie will once again have the Team Shaver mounts at his command for the Big Block events and will be driving the same Affordable Transmission number 17 he won the 358 Modified Championship with at Orange County. Higbie would like nothing better than to have his name entrenched in the record books for winning the Big Block portion of the event. With $20,000.00 going to the winner, it would be a great way to end what has been a very successful racing season for the "Statesman From Slate Hill". As a past winner of the 358 Modified event, Higbie would like nothing better than to add another win to cap off his great season in 2008. Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule was a very successful one as he challenged for the Accord Speedway title despite the slow beginning. Higbie raced the family owned signature numbered 97 cars at Accord and Higbie's assault at OCFS netted him a solid third place in theTeam Shaver numbered 47 equipment as the Shaver Team had two Big Block cars for Higbie to steer. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his successful racing career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing and BadaBing Pizza have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply and Woodburne Lawn & Garden lent their support to the Shaver Team. Higbie utilized the Affordable Transmission number 17 to capture the 358 Modified crown at Orange County. Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes during the 2008 racing season.
