WINNER:
One week ago, Ryan Phelps said that things were finally coming together for his Big Red Towing team. Phelps backed up that statement on Friday night at the ‘D-Shaped Dirt Demon’ as he made it back to back first-time winners. Phelps took the lead late in the 35-lap DIRTcar Modified event to earn the $2,000 winner’s prize.
"It feels like a monkey is finally off our back," stated Phelps in Victory Lane. "This has to be probably one of the most frustrating places to race. It takes so much with tires, setup, and the lines you run to really bring it home in Victory Lane.”
RACE RECAP:
Vinnie Vitale lead laps 1-26: Vitale took the lead at the start on the high side of turn four. He started on the outside of the front row.
Phelps lead laps 27-35: Phelps drove by Vitale on the bottom of turns three and four to gain the lead.
QUOTES:
Ryan Phelps: “I’ve lost enough races here and fell back to 15th enough to learn that when you run the top here at some point your tires go away,” said Phelps. “I said to myself that if I could get by Chad Phelps I’ll be able to get by Vinnie (Vitale) at the end when he fades.”
Vinnie Vitale: “My crew told me you got to lose a race like this to learn something,” commented Vitale. “I felt good on the top but that obviously ended up not being the case. I almost got back by him (Phelps) at the end. Overall though I’m happy with second because when you look at the finish there are a lot of good guys behind me.”
CAUTIONS:
Lap 13 – Jim Witko spun in turn three all by himself.
Lap 13 – Kyle Lewis and Pat Ward got stuck together going into turn one on the restart. Jim Witko made contact with Lewis breaking his front end and Chuck Bower ran into Ward.

DIRTcar BIG BLOCK MODIFIEDS (35 LAPS): Ryan Phelps, Vinnie Vitale, Billy Decker, Willy Decker , Jimmy Phelps, Matt Sheppard, Pat Ward , Alan Johnson, Chad Phelps, Dale Planck, Kevin Bates, Kyle Lewis, Tom Sears, Chuck Bower, Roy Sheilds, Larry Wight, Sean Beardsley, Shawn Donath, Jim Witko, Rich Rogala.
SUPPORT DIVISIONS:
In other action, Kevan Cook beat out Sean Lias to win the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature. Lias took the lead for a moment with two laps remaining, but Cook battled back and took the lead on the bottom of the speedway to win his second feature of the season.
Tim Devendorf earned his second consecutive ESDCA Mod-Lite feature event. He took the lead on lap 3 after starting on the outside of the sixth row. He was unchallenged the rest of the way for the win.
Chuck Powelczyk won the 15-lap Four-Cylinder Super Stock feature just prior to the rains falling on the speedway.
